I live in southern Illinois, not exactly a haven for Democrats but we soldier on . . . My husband uses the VA healhcare system in Marion, Illinois. They have a hospital there and it is a fairly large operation. Most all of the clinics have a large TV set up in the waiting area. For some reason, Fox news is played on all of them. But waiting in the pharmacy is the worst, its a long wait with nothing to do and some of the older Vets tend to like to "stir things up" by doing some right wing preaching while they are there. Fox news playing as loud as can be tends to just stir them up more until I feel like they are nothing short of a lynch mob ready to go get Obama! There is no way to change the TV station and the staff is too busy to even bother with such a request. So after getting up and leaving the pharmacy area the last time I was there due to the anti-Democrat sentiments that were being loudly displayed, I decided to do something about this. I picked up a suggestion form from the front desk that was a letter to the administrator of the hospital. I sat down and wrote out why I was offended that my belief system was continuously being attacked by having to listen to Fox news every time we visited the VA Hospital. It made me feel better although I didn't think much would come of it. That was about 6 months ago. My husband had an appointment there last week and I dreaded going. We went to the first waiting area and low and behold, CNN was playing on the TV. Walking past another waiting room, the Weather Channel was on. The true test was the pharmacy though. After my husband saw the doctor we headed off to wait in the pharmacy. There on the large screen TV was playing a soap opera! Not sure which one, I was just so deliriously happy to not have to listen to Fox News! The whole atmosphere was different as well, no ranting about Obama, no slurs about Democrats ruining the country like I usually had to listen to. Just peace and quite and calm. It just goes to show that sometimes even a little victory is sweet! (And sometimes speaking up does make a difference!)
