Do elected officials need to be held to a higher standard?
Personally, I think so. When you decide to run for office, and represent thousands of people, you have a debt and obligation to your constituents. I can think of many times when sports heroes are held to that "role model" standard (many fail). But sports figures are not elected, any more than musicians or actors. Polititians are elected because of public trust.

1. To a certain extent, on certain things, maybe so
However, fooling around on your wife is a big thing here in America.

2. Yes. They all do.
Think about how we criticize Walker for being a college dropout, Newtie for being a hypocrite about sex and marriage.

The same standards should apply to all. And if they did something, they should admit it right away.

Usually it is the coverup that does them in.

4. Okay, so how is it that "family values" republicans seem to get away with a LOWER standard?
How is it that they get away with far more heinous shit than anything Weiner did?

In a perfect world, I might agree with you. But this world is about as far from perfect as we can imagine.

now it seems that anything goes as long as you cna get away with it.

I can't understand why people don't see Twitter and Facebook for the dangerous tools they really are.

7. I'd be happy if they were just held to a lower standard.
I mean, look at Congress -- the standards can't be very high.
