He lied just like those before him
I am surprised to see many threads here on DU praising Weiner for coming out and telling the truth. Are we forgetting that last week Congressman Weiner was on multiple news outlets saying that he did not send those photos?

Lets leave the politics out of this. We have had Democrat as well as Republican politicians before Congressman Weiner who did stupid things and lied until it was no longer possible for them to do so. This is more hypocritical when it comes to Republicans and their constant preaching about the family values.

In any case, I think what Congressman Weiner did is between him and his wife. Yes, he does owe the voters an apology for his stupid behavior. However, what I find wrong and unforgiving in this case is that he lied. Just like those before him.

1. That is a good point
This is a good example of what I like to call the 'Shaggy Defense.' No matter what the evidence, just say 'it wasn't me' and at least some people are going to believe you. The sad fact is that it quite often works.

It's not a very big scandal, but he did lie and deserves to be called out on it. Like so many similar situations, more people are going to be bothered by the lying than the actual act itself.

2. Actually, he denied sending that ONE picture to that SPECIFIC woman -
a point that she also denied.

His very denial did not rule out that there were other women that he might have sent pictures to, or that there might be other pictures.

And, it does nothing to diminish his claim that his facebook account was hacked.

My thinking is Brietbart (or his close associates) did hack the account, pulled that picture from one post and the woman's name from another, just so Weiner would be put in a position of making a categorical denial - allowing them to jump in with a 'gotcha!' as they like to do. After all, if they had immediately put up a genuine photo with its intended recipient, there was every chance that Weiner might have said "Yeah, that's me. So what?" and taken all the wind out of their sails. By attaching the pic to someone that he knew didn't receive it, they maneuvered an initial denial which was, actually, the truth.

My only support for this theory is the fact that he would not commit, saying "No, it's not me, and I don't send pictures to women on Facebook." IOW, he did NOT lie.

(None of the above is intended to obscure the fact that it is idiotic for anyone over 16 to be posting pics like this - just as if you never want to have a sex tape show up on line, you don't make any sex tapes. dumb, dumb, dumb.)
