Steve Jobs
Not technically political, but when the CEO of the world's biggest company speaks, its news that affects a lot of us.

I did not see today's events as they happened. I saw clips on the evening nooz. OS X Lion, iOS5, and The Cloud. The latter may well be a paradigm shift.

But that's not what this is about.

He looks terrible. I felt awful for him, to be honest, dragging himself out there for little more than the sake of Apple Stock (of which I hold a few shares). His voice was feeble. He is thin to the point of being gaunt. He looks like what he is, a cancer sufferer.

Some say he's evil, including some right here on DU. It is not my intent to debate that. That is beside the point, entirely, so let's not go there in this thread, okay?

1. Apple is killing the PC.

Including their own.

Their portable iOS devices are now going to be independent of Computers and others will follow.

iOS is their main income now and Apple is worth more than Microsoft and Intel combined.

They used the phrase 'PC Free' more than once today. It even has an icon:

The day is coming where Laptops and Desktops will be for 'power users' and portable devices will be our main devices.

Thank you, Mr. Jobs for all you have done for us.

3. I really think this is a Next Big Thing
If I could have a phone with the ability to plug into a huge monitor (much of our work is with CAD software), I'd be happy as a clam. Everything right there on one device.

5. AirPlay is the root of that eventuality.
'AirPlay Mirroring for iPad 2: Wow your audience in the board room, classroom, or living room. AirPlay now supports video mirroring. Which means you can wirelessly — and securely — stream whatever’s on your iPad 2 to your HDTV via Apple TV. Everyone in the room sees exactly what’s on your iPad display up there on the big screen — even when you rotate iPad from portrait to landscape or zoom in and out on photos.'

2. wow, i'm so glad someone mentioned this! right there with you.
Steve Jobs was a tremendous inspiration for me in college, and continues to be. it's a shitty disease, one that i've lost a couple of friends to. it's horrific.

Why can't shitty things happen to warmongers. Why must the best of us be taken?

4. I find the way Apple is run to be fascinating.
Some say he's a taskmaster and micromanager, but you can't argue with the results. He attracts and encourages a LOT of very talented, creative people.

7. maybe that comes from his vision being slightly askew from the "received wisdom"
i'd rather work with a difficult visionary than a pleasant pusher of the status quo.

6. It's killing me to see him like this.
I've been a huge fan/follower of his since the mid 80s. I like, love and respect the man.

And, yes, he is evil. An evil and brilliant genius with some obvious issues.
