For those who pray --
A prayer request: My young friend is at Children's Hospital in Denver with her youngest son who is 16. He had a second corrective surgery on his leg and they found a mass in the leg; it was removed, but there's been no report yet of its nature. Meanwhile, he's on oxygen and running a temp of 105.9. Needless to say, his mom is deeply worried. Please say a prayer or two for him and his mother. I have a special attachment for this young man, as I got to assist, very unexpectedly, with his delivery. On their behalf, I thank you for your prayers.

7. Prayers from Phoenix to this young man. My own only child is just a hair short of 14;
I can appreciate what your young friend's mother is experiencing.

Please let us know the prognosis.

9. Sending deep prayers from Denver.
Edited on Thu Jan-06-11 12:13 AM by intheflow
Northeast from Cap Hill to Children's: prayers to calm your friends' hearts and give them strength for what lies ahead, and for the best possible outcome for them all. Maybe my proximity will help speed the prayer.

Also sending a prayer out further northeast, to Colorado's northeastern prairie, to you for loving your friends so much. Peace to you.

15. Well, I don't
Edited on Thu Jan-06-11 03:24 PM by Cherchez la Femme
believe in prayer, and very little in God anymore but I'll offer one anyhow
I don't know if She'll listen, but it can't hurt, right?

When I was a child I had a malady from birth (due to my mother taking DES) which they didn't catch until I was 7-8 years old. Because they didn't catch it early I now have one atrophied kidney that doesn't work at all

but the good thing is my other kidney grew to twice the size & seems to (Knock-on-wood) take care of my bodies demands (although I can get dehydrated very, very quickly). It's a good thing I was young, that other kidney growing & compensating for the other one would have never happened if it was adult-onset.

Anyhow, I used to have fevers that went off the end of the thermometer;
--I would go in & out of consciousness (semi-coma), have hallucinations,
I even remember some: there'd be huge menacing black spiders with black glistening webs on the ceiling right above me
and once a 7-foot tall Frankenstein walked across the end of my bed!--
along with the other painful symptoms of high fever, so I know how horrid it can be. It's a good thing I never went into convulsions :(
But those high fevers, developmentally, caused that I have next to no enamel on my teeth so they're all crumbly (one cracked in half from eating a rice krispie square!) and prone to decay, even though I brush 3x a day. :(

So now I am quite afraid of spiders, quite terrified.
As for Frankenstein, eh, I can take him or leave him -- he didn't threaten me, just walked by so I can't fault him too much :D

My best wishes to the lad & his family, & I hope prayer helps!

23. ---UPDATE---
First, thank all of you so very much!

He's still running high fevers, has some kind of bacterial infection that is also manifesting in welts all over his body. They'll do a pick line tomorrow (not sure I spelled that right)for the antibiotics he'll be on for the next four weeks. He still doesn't have an appetite, but he's managed to eat a bit of scrambled egg.

His mom is overwhelmed by the generosity of so many people keeping her son in their prayers. She asks, as do I, that the prayers continue.

Again, thank you!

27. Continued prayers his way.
FWIW--and it isn't much, I think it's PCCC (my currently taking chemo sis has one). Must be awful for his family and of courser for him. Please let him and them know that we love and are thinking about them. I've been the beneficiary of DU love on a couple of occasions and it's pretty amazing! :hug:

34. ---UPDATE #4---
Latest news is that the fever is down, EKG and echocardiogram both came back good. His spirits are improving, but he doesn't yet have any appetite. We're hoping that he's come through the crisis. His mom is just blown away by all the messages of prayer and caring.

My apologies for the delay in this latest update. After being gone all day yesterday I came home to computer problems and simply couldn't access his mom's messages.

My personal gratitude to all of you is profound. Your thoughtfulness and caring have helped to bring my friend and her son (and me) through a very stressful time. It's working - please don't stop!

At this point, I'm hoping that my next update will happen when he is discharged from the hospital. Blessings to each and every one of you!
