Cong. Weiner! (Or anyone reading this who knows him!) Rehabilitation starts here:
I'd like to propose that he start his rehabilitation THIS MINUTE. TONIGHT. Or FIRST THING IN THE MORNING.

What he should do, since he's now admitted to all kinds of shit, what he ought to consider is to tape some PSAs, if anything, segueing off Reese Witherspoon's recent comments, and basically say - "hey, it may seem fun or something but it's NOT a good idea to do that. I mean, look what's happened to ME."

At least he could take a unique opportunity to turn lemons into, well, SOMETHING drinkable. If I were his PR advisor, that's what I'd tell him. Turn this into something that might help some naive kid who has an albeit-flimsy excuse for making mistakes like this. YOU do NOT. But some kid might. Maybe you can use your example to warn them off. I mean, Reese Witherspoon just brought it up on, what? The MTV Awards? So it's a subject that's already out there.

Anybody reading this who knows him, please by all means pass it along. MANY people are willing to forgive a Prodigal Son, especially one who to his credit owned up to an awful lot of really embarrassing stuff in public, including facing on-the-scene heckling by none other than andrew breitbart, and said flat-out that he was sorry. No weasel-wordings like "mistakes were made." There was also no "I'm sorry if I offended anyone."

Now please don't misunderstand! I'm NOT excusing what Anthony Weiner did, in the least. I'm just disgusted with him that he'd play with fire like this. That he'd open himself to such a Category-5 hurricane of a political mess by engaging in behavior like this. I don't care how private he thought he was. He's a public figure and not just any public figure, but a liberal Democrat, and not just any liberal Democrat but one who sticks his neck out on TV and cable and speaks out forcefully for a lot of the things for which people like we here on DU and elsewhere are fighting. For the bad guys, he'd be a delicious target to take down, especially since we don't get to hear from now-ex-Congressman Alan Grayson anymore. I would think, by now, and at his level of experience on the front lines, and his level of sophistication, he'd KNOW that shit like this can happen - PARTICULARLY if you like to do something in your off hours that would throw red meat to all your enemies? Wouldn't it be great to take down one of the enemy's rising-star mouthpieces? You know they think that. They're already looking at who's next - Debbie Wasserman-Shultz? Ed Shultz has been knocked not out but down at least, and now that he has one suspension on his record at MSNBC I bet he sweats a little harder every night. That was the pattern for David Shuster, and also Keith Olbermann. One suspension and you better be immaculate from here on, and even that might not help you.

Whichever way this story hits you, I would imagine many of us would advise Anthony Weiner that he needs some public relations REHAB, and it should begin IMMEDIATELY! I'd love to explore that further if anybody working with him wants to pursue it and wants to PM me.

Oh man. :banghead:

2. That could be a line in the script.
I mean - go out there and eat shit, and offer your story as a cautionary tale - "hey guys, what Reese Witherspoon was scolding about the other day is TRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUE!!!! I'm here to tellya."

3. Good idea. Weiner owes his supporters a lot more than an apology.
And his experience could be a useful warning to a lot of people who think that the Patriot Act is only intended to allow the government to snoop on terrorists.

The internet has to have all kinds of security holes in it. Why? So that corporate interests can safeguard their copyrights on all kinds of things.

Of course, all kinds of hackers will take advantage. Be careful what you say. You could lose your job over something you post on Twitter or Facebook or DU. Your boss could be watching when you least expect it.

4. I'm not sure this is a lesson that's hit home with a lot of people yet. Especially young people.
