Study: Power matters more than gender when it comes to Infidelity
With as much beating up on men as has been going on in the wake of Weiner's admission, I thought it important to post actual scientific evidence on the subject

When It Comes To Infidelity, Does Power Trump Gender?
We have all seen the headlines. A powerful athlete, politician or businessman has committed adultery. The tabloids fly off the shelves and the papers are consumed with the how’s and why’s. However there is one key group that is often missing from the news and gossip columns – women.

.
.
.

Using a large, anonymous internet survey of 1561 individuals, Joris Lammers of Tilburg University and a team of researchers set out to discover if there is a higher risk of unfaithfulness in people in positions of power, regardless of gender. “There has been a lot of research in the past that indicates that gender is the strongest predictor of infidelity, but none of these studies have been done on powerful women,” said Lammers.

.
.
.

The study revealed two key discoveries to why powerful people cheat. First, there is a strong association between power and confidence and that the amount of confidence a person has is the strongest link between power and unfaithfulness. Second, the researchers found that among powerful people gender made no difference in past digressions or the participants’ desires to cheat.

3. People in power don't just cheat - they cheat in bizarre and horrifying ways.
I'm reminded of what Bill Hicks said when he said that anyone that far to the right is hiding a deep, dark secret. He's right.

5. I don't believe this study. There is not any information at all presented in the article.
1561 individuals...

Was it split evenly between men and women?

Who knows?

6. The article is a summary of a peer reviewed study presented in a sister magazine
It costs money to get at that study. I'm willing to go over the study with you if you are willing to pay for it.

9. You are the one challenging the synopsis of a peer-reviewed study based on emotion.
I think it is fair that you foot the bill for that objection.

10. You posted the article about "the study".
The burden of proof is on you.

But don't waste your time. Or your money.

I'm pretty sure it's crap.

11. That is right, I posted a link and excerpt of the synopsis of a peer-reviewed study
that is my backup. You have no backup for your objections. The next step is for you to furnish proof of why you think the way you do.

You havent done that.

7. Single politicians don't get the votes the way married politicians do.
Maybe if we as a country were comfortable giving power positions to single people, people in power wouldn't feel like they had to be married.

I'm sure there are a lot of marriages that are more about being a power couple, or a business couple, than a romantic relationship.

14. Please what? You dont like what the study says so you attack it without knowing the details
You dont know how they controlled for anything in the study. THe synopsis provided does not provide those details. If you really objected to the study and wanted to find out if there was questionable methodology, you could pay for it.

Bottom line, some people want to keep repeating nasty gender stereotypes and get angry when something is put in the way of that.

15. I don't have to know anything else other than that.
Your "study" is as worthless as a CNN poll.
