From LBN - "Jilted ex-boyfriend puts up abortion billboard" (Edited)
Edited on Mon Jun-06-11 09:44 PM by Cerridwen
ETA: Everyone - I'm sorry, I just remembered that the article says she miscarried. That's an important piece and I'm sorry I left it out. I put up 3 OPs and didn't focus enough.

ALAMOGORDO, N.M. – A New Mexico man's decision to lash out with a billboard ad saying his ex-girlfriend had an abortion against his wishes has touched off a legal debate over free speech and privacy rights.

The sign on Alamogordo's main thoroughfare shows 35-year-old Greg Fultz holding the outline of an infant. The text reads, "This Would Have Been A Picture Of My 2-Month Old Baby If The Mother Had Decided To Not KILL Our Child!"

Fultz's ex-girlfriend has taken him to court for harassment and violation of privacy. A domestic court official has recommended the billboard be removed.

But Fultz's attorney argues the order violates his client's free speech rights.

12. I'm afraid to think how his mother is reacting to this.
Is she still around? Does she condone it?

Just...ick.

2. When he can get pregnant, he can make the choice.
Until then, he needs to STFU and go away.

This is pure harassment. It's over, Greg. It's time to move on.

There's a doormat out there for you somewhere.

17. So you don't think the father should have any choice at
all? As we're so fond of pointing out here when it comes to men who aren't supporting their children, fathers are equally responsible for the creation of the pregnancy. Should they not, then, get a voice in whether or not it's terminated?

21. It is up to the woman and is personal and case by case
There is no one answer to your question. It all depends. My personal opinion is that in healthy relationships, it would be best for the woman to consider the partner's wishes. However, the ultimate decision is hers. There is just absolutely no way that it isn't. She is the one carrying the child and it is her body and health that will be affected.

They guy on the billboard is an asshole. Plain and simple.

26. Where are the man to man messages for men and boys to stop
trying to nail young girls with lies and deception? They all just high five each other.

How many abortions are for girls who believed men who lied about always being there?

Like the scamming scum bag on the discontinued "Need a moment?" Twixt TV ad campaign. So the sluts must suffer the consequences, and the red blooded American boys get the silent approval.

Even if you believe abortion is murder, this unjust situation remains.

31. Good question!
I only spoke of considering the partner's wishes in healthy relationships - I was thinking of married couples or long-term partners. I didn't go into all the scenarios - but your post is very true - many, many elective abortions are the result of the scenario you describe.

It is the woman who carries the burden. She has to make the decision and she has to live with the consequences. If she aborts - it is her that feels the emotional pain. If she carries to term, it is she that suffers with the health consequences, the decision to keep or give up for adoption, the responsibility of raising a child, etc.

And you're completely right IMO - young men especially want a "score" and a high five. It is absolutely disgusting how some of them treat young women. I've seen it and I've never in my life seen women act the same way. Any promiscuous young women that I've known have been looking for something - needing something - acceptance, love, compassion, etc. I've never known any of them to look for a "score".

there should absolutely be "man to man" messages about respect, compassion and self control when it comes to sex.

47. Thank You Ohio Blue
I'm so glad that Twixt changed their commercials.

In this context, the only decent thing I've seen on TV was one condom commercial.

The bar is full of grunting pig-men. However, one guy returns from the men's-room with a condom and suddenly he turns from a pig into a cute boy.

It's funny and sweet and of course advantageous to the agenda of selling rubbers.

Maybe some sexy singer boy will write a fantastic game-changing song.

24. What kind of man; for he is not yet a father, that takes some effort;
forces his female partner to do something she does not want to do?

What kind of father will said man make?

The very fact of a man thinking he has the right to force a woman to carry a pregnancy to term, or alternately, to force her to abort, tells me the man is not man material much less father material.

The woman can consult him, and take his feelings under advisement, but in the end she has complete and total control over what happens.

36. But it is also his child, is it not?
And, as we are so fond of pointing out here when it comes to deadbeat dads or when women are held solely responsible by conservatives for their pregnancies, it takes two to tango and the father is equally responsible for the creation of the pregnancy. So, while it may be the woman's ultimate choice and decision, should not the father's feelings and wishes also be taken into account?

40. What are you proposing? That he be able to veto her abortion decision and force her to birth?
Edited on Tue Jun-07-11 12:26 PM by CreekDog
Usually the answer is no.

Usually men's "advocates" then pivot and say "no" to forcing an abortion and then say that since they have no say in the woman's decision, if the woman wants to have a baby that the father doesn't want --he shouldn't have to pay.

Is this you? :hi:

46. No, it is not. I have never been able to stomach the argument
that, since he doesn't get to ultimately decide if she has an abortion or not, he shouldn't have to pay child support if she decides to bear and keep the baby. Having been in an unplanned pregnancy situation myself, albeit twenty years ago, I well know what women go through in that regard.

I was merely stating that the father should have at least some right to make his opinion known, as he is not a mere bystander in the situation. If they agree, fine, if they don't, it's still ultimately up to her whichever way, and the law backs that up.

42. "should not the father's feelings and wishes also be taken into account" for what purpose?
so he can badger the woman to make the choice HE wants??

if they were to agree on the choice made, then there's no point in having discussed it with him.

if they were to disagree on the choice made, then what's the point? he can't force her to do something she doesn't want.

so, i see no point in discussing it with him.

if the woman WANTS to consult him, i got no problem with that. but if she doesn't want to discuss it with him, i got no problem with that either.

43. So how do we choose if they disagree? There are two votes.
Two votes, if they disagree, no one's ever going to win that argument, it'll always be a 50-50 vote. So if they disagree, what should be done? Force the woman to give birth who doesn't want to? Force a woman to have an abortion who doesn't want one?

I think the woman's vote is just a little bit weighted by the fact that she's the one carrying it.

45. How do you choose?
The mother has the ultimate voice, of course, and the law backs that up (at least at this time, who knows with the teabaggers in charge in some areas). I was merely stating that the father should have some right to at least make his opinion known. If they agree, fine. If they don't, it's still up to her either way.

The boyfriend was pushing for her to abort the unplanned pregnancy (b/c he didn't want to man up) while the woman (my friend) wanted to have the baby.

Of course, there were no billboards and all.

22. Same thing happened to me when I was married.
My ex husband wanted me to have an abortion. That was the first thing he said when I told him I was pregnant.
I went into a two hour crying fit and said "no way".

He said that I "trapped" him into marriage and a child. Now, how I can trap him with a child, when I did not get pregnant until several months after we were married, I do not know.

He said we couldn't afford a child. he had a steady job and good insurance and I told him he was wrong.

Some guys are psychopaths.

Control freaks work both ways.
I think he was hoping that the baby and I would both die in childbirth, since I had to have a C section, absolutely no doubt about it.

That is a disturbed individual. The NANI on the billboard is the girl's name. She clearly would have a case for invasion of privacy and since she says she had a miscarriage he's defaming her as well. Asshole.

And based on those twits, she should get a restraining order.
