Why do republicans keep saying Obama's has devalued the dollar?
I've been keeping an eye on the dollar and my investments since 1997 (when I bought my first and only stocks.) The dollar was far lower under Bush getting to around 68 in 2008 as the economy was crashing and jobs were being lost by the thousands. After Obama took office the dollar rose significantly partly due to the euro losing ground as the economy in Europe took a turn for the worse. Yes, the dollar has been sinking again recently as the economy is on very shaky ground but it's not met the lows it knew under Bush. Why does no one ever counter this talking point on the right? While the dollar certainly could go lower due to a weakening economy how could it possibly be strengthened without doing more to encourage job growth?

And the talking point: "government cannot create jobs." MY Gawd that is such complete and utter BS. Why do you think the DC area has remained virtually untouched by the reeling economy? That community is held aloft by government jobs and defense contractor jobs. And I know that while the right is desperately trying to rewrite history saying that the WPA didn't help the economy turn around during the depression that is simply not true. My grandfather and grandmother held WPA jobs and were able to feed and provide for their three children through the darkest days of the depression. Why does no one on the left make a stronger case for starting a new WPA program today? Or at least call out those on the right trying to rewrite history?

1. That's a good one...when right wingers say "government can;t create jobs..."
you can answer, "Well, that will be news to all those people employed at the defense contractors!"

7. I know huh?
Y'know what's really funny/sad. My sister works for a defense contractor that has been contracted to rebuild Afghanistan. She says she's a libertarian, loves Ron Paul, and is always ranting about government workers spending our tax money on outrageous salaries and benefits. I once said: "You mean like you?" and she threw a fit and didn't talk to me for months. I gather she meant that applied to everyone BUT her. ;)

2. Obama is continuing Bush's WEAK DOLLAR POLICY
Yes, for a very short time the dollar hit over $150.00 against the Euro under Bush. But under Obama the dollar has been weaker for a longer period of time. It stands today around $1.45 to the Euro.

Obama & the Fed foolishly want a weak dollar despite the problems it creates, like high gasoline prices.

3. How about the not subtle, every hour on the hour, Obama is a
failed Prsident, Obama has failed. Obams is a one termer.
Obama is a one term president.

Repeat something often enough and long enough and the
country will believe it.

Just this morning Business reporter from CNBC said
a new poll shows Republicans will do a better job
than Obama on the economy.

6. wow, really?
Cause I remember the republicans being firmly in control when the economy was driven off the cliff. And I've watched as they have blocked every single attempt by the current administration to do anything that would fix the economy, fighting (still) financial reform, fighting stimulus packages, fighting repeal of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy, and today fighting the appointment of Elisabeth Warren. No one countered that absurd claim?

4. Because they keep flinging poo hoping something will stick.
And they keep doing it because they keep getting away with it.

5. Yeah I guess that's what gets me
Reps keep going on TV and Radio and saying things that are obviously not true but no one calls them on it. No reporters and none of the pundits or dems there to offer the other side of the coin. It just frustrates me that they can't counter these things that seem so easy to counter. It's either weak, or purposeful.

8. Because he's a Democrat, and they're desperate to make anything stick.
Hey, Republicans - He also "devalued" Bin Laden. Suck it.
