Could you pass a US citizenship test?
Could you pass a US citizenship test?

In order to become a US citizen, immigrants must pass the Naturalization Test. American citizenship bestows the right to vote, improves the likelihood of family members living in other countries to come and live in the US, gives eligibility for federal jobs, and can be a way to demonstrate loyalty to the US. Applicants must get 6 answers out of 10 in an oral exam to pass the test. According to US Citizenship and Immigration services, 92 percent of applicants pass this test.

You must get 58 or more of these test questions correct in order to pass.

Question 1 of 96

Who signs bills to become laws?

the Secretary of State

the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court

the Vice President

the President

1. The format is hideous - Two clicks per question and you may have to scroll every time.

I've taken it several times before, and always gotten 100% right.

Here's a link to a practice test that allows you to answer up to 50 questions at a time:

3. I quit after 'what is the economy of the us?'
I answered 'none of the above' because it's a combination of capitalism and socialism and it said I was wrong that we are capitalist.

Where is THAT in the Constitution? If we are capitalist, why do Social Security, Medicare, and virtually every other government program from food inspection to bank regulators to food stamps exist?

I got everything right up to then. I'm sure I could pass it pretty easily.

5. You're correct. I hit it, too.
This is probably a mistake on the part of the CSM. We have no official economic system in the USA, and it's been argued all the way up to the SCOTUS.

The test got stuck on question 35. Each of my 2 wrong answers were disputes -- this, and the purpose of the Judicial branch.

Most of these you should get by virtue of not being dead, unless you come from some stoneage society without any modern media and where books are considered high-fibre sandwiches.

6. I had no idea it is so easy to become a citizen
Edited on Thu Jan-06-11 11:18 AM by End Of The Road
I could have passed in elementary school, though not at 100%.

I got 91 out of 96 correct, and I'd like to quibble about their choice of correct answer for #28.

But this is the last CS Monitor quiz I'm taking. Too much of a time commitment with the wait time between questions.

I'm a white male born within the borders of the country.

I have the God-given right to be as blitheringly ignorant and entitled as I want.

...and, yeah, I wonder if I could pass the thing. Going to try it later. Thanks for the link!

11. I imagine a siginificant number of DU posters could pass it handily.
Of course, that's not representative of the population as a whole.
