USA Learning from Portugal's New Drug Laws.
Portugal, a land of 10 million people, used to have a drug-addicted population of 100,000. That's 1%.
Then in 2000, Portugal decided to decriminalize the use of all drugs (although it is still illegal).
Within 10 years, contrary to the dire predictions of other countries, the numbers of new drug
users have gone up, but the numbers of new addicts have dramatically gone down!

The USA is now sending people to study how the Portuguese have been so successful.

1. I don't think that a mere study can overcome the war profiteers' and 'prison-industrial complex'
profiteers' iron grip on U.S. government policy and on our tax dollars.

To do that, we need to get rid of the ES&S/Diebold 'TRADE SECRET' voting machines, for starters.

But I'm glad to see that it is at least being studied. How sensible.

2. Yes, I think it's a problem that's going to be a lot tougher to deal with here
than in Portugal. There is probably a much higher percentage of greedy sickos who hold
positions of power in our country. And they sure don't want to give up their criminal
profits - even when it means misery and early death for others.
