Top Democrat calls on Anthony Weiner to resign
Edited on Wed Jun-08-11 02:34 PM by Skip_In_Boulder
I really wish the Democrats would quit throwing their own under the bus. That is suppose to be the Republicans job.

The dam is beginning to break for Rep. Anthony Weiner as he battles to save his career from a sex-scandal made for the Internet age.

Rep. Allyson Schwartz, a leading official at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, called for the New York Democrat to resign on Wednesday after a picture of a man’s genitals — purportedly a Weiner self-portrait — began circulating on the Internet. Contacted by POLITICO, a Weiner spokesman neither confirmed nor denied that the picture was of Weiner

“Having the respect of your constituents is fundamental for a member of Congress. In light of Anthony Weiner’s offensive behavior online, he should resign,” the Pennsylvania congresswoman, who serves as chairwoman of recruiting and candidate services for the DCCC, told POLITICO.

In softer tones, Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) made clear to an Arkansas radio station that Weiner ought to leave Congress.

“Ultimately that’s up to him, and his constituents and his family but I think at this point it would probably be a good thing if he would go ahead and resign,” Pryor said on KUAR in Little Rock.

2. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (DNC) hasn't jumped to call for Weiner to resign.
Maybe she's not rushing to judgment in joining the republicans to evict Weiner from the House.

4. If I were advising Anthony...
I would advise him to resign and seek medical assistance. He has a sickness, a sexual addiction. He is not the first person with such an illness.

In the next election cycle, if he has fully recovered, he should run for office again. It would be admirable and people would appreciate it if he would seek help and get himself better.

Just my opinion.

27. The reason I say that is because...

the Repubs are not going to turn this loose. Weiner can continue to fight and maybe lose? He may hurt the Democratic chances across the board. Once he loses, he has no more viability as a political candidate. He is finished. Or he can go down in flames? At least, he was fighting.

But he can, if he makes the right decision, keep the seat in Democratic hands and keep himself as a possible future candidate for office. He is still young. He can show people that he has changed and they would vote for him in the future. If he continues to say that he did nothing wrong, that it was a private matter, he will go down in flames and take others with him.

7. Mark Pryor
Isn't he one of the Blue Dogs?

Unless there was something illegal going on this needs to be left up to his constituents. Vitter survived worse.

10. Somebody needs to slap some sense into these people
What Weiner did was stupid, not illegal.

If everyone who ever did anything stupid had to leave government, Grover Norquist would get his wish and we'd have no government.

Schwartz, Kaine, and the rest of the pearl clutchers and hand wringers need to STFU. Nobody is impressed with their piety. Equaling Weiner's stupidity by trying to hound him out of office is not impressive.

12. Who is this Johnathan Allen, and why is he lying?
There were no pics any anyone's genitals. There was a pic of underwear, and a pic of pecs - that's all I've seen.

15. The Democrats on the Hill know how to LOSE.
If they think this is going to make them look all
holy and pure as the driven snow, they had better
get some new thoughts.

They look like a bunch a scared bullied rats scampering
for the nearest rat hole.

Of course they are always out of touch with real
Americans--what can I expect.

20. This whole non-event ranks right up there with Janet Jackson's boob at the Super Bowl.
You'd think congress had more to do than pontificate about Weiner's dick.

Our government has gone from ridiculous to pathetic.

22. Little by little we are becoming a soap opera.
Why do those Democrats need to announce to the world what they feel about Weiner? Why don't they just contact him and tell him to his face. Everyone is trying to get into the act. It reminds me of some preachers I have met. They tell you about the sins of liquor in the Sunday sermon, then go back to the manse and pop open a beer. Are they all in central casting?

I'm not defending his actions, but there are so many congresscritters who haven't resigned because of things like this. Why should he be any different?
