Anyone watch Kunstler on History Channel last night? Are they going
to rerun it? My daughter finally got to listen to him. She came and asked for the books this morning. Finally.

1. I watched that.
It was pretty sobering, but not anything we didn't already know. I'm sure they'll rerun it.

I'm beginning to think those Mayans were on to something.

3. James Howard Kunstler?
I loved The Long Emergency. What was the History Channel show about?

4. Doom and gloom.
Six experts on different topics -- peak oil, the financial meltdown, declining water, nuclear terrorism threats, overpopulation, and artificial intelligence -- talking about how we'd better prepare for some BIG changes because the American empire is presently unsustainable.

The one thing they all agreed on is that solutions will of necessity be local rather than national -- i.e., local food production (roof-top gardens, etc.), local alternative energy production, and so on. Cultural downsizing is inevitable.

It was somewhat sensationalized, as is History Channel's wont, but all good information (other than the AI guy, who I thought was a little "out there").

The show is called "Prophets of Doom" if you want to keep an eye out for a repeat.

5. HA! Great title.
Sounds informative and entertaining, all right up the History Channel's alley. I'll look for it. Thanks!

8. I thought the AI guy may have watched too many Terminator movies.
The rest of the information was pretty good, though, and I liked that they gave us a little "out" at the end. I mean, we're not TOTALLY doomed, just pretty much doomed.
