Tracy Morgan Attempts to Save His "Career" ...
Edited on Fri Jun-10-11 12:26 PM by TeaBagsAreForCups
Tracy Morgan Apologizes for Homophobic Rant: 'I'm Not a Hateful Person'

Morgan 30 Rock star Tracy Morgan has apologized via his publicist for a homophobic rant that offended fans this week at a Nashville stand-up comedy show:

“I want to apologize to my fans and the gay & lesbian community for my choice of words at my recent stand-up act in Nashville. I’m not a hateful person and don’t condone any kind of violence against others. While I am an equal opportunity jokester, and my friends know what is in my heart, even in a comedy club this clearly went too far and was not funny in any context.”

43. So at least he and Mel Gibson can vacation together with
Anthony Weiner. However hiking is out of the question because they have blown off their own toes so completely.

However, I thought his career was over with "Cop Out".

3. Hahaha! Stabbing your own kids if they're gay!!!!
:grr:

What's next? Raping your daughter if she has freckles? Beating your wife over her eye color?

The first rule of being a comedian is knowing what the hell is funny. There is no humor in violent homophobia.

4. It wasn't a fucking "choice of words"
It was the whole premise of a series of outrageously offensive jokes.

Try again, Tracy. This time with feeling.

6. Hmm. . . I usually know *as I'm saying something stupid* that it's bad. . .
I can't imagine ranting something like Morgan said, but still, when I say something patently offensive or even mildly degrading, I recognize my mistake as I say it and make amends right then.

My guess is, Morgan needed someone else to explain the error of his rant. More's the pity.

7. I think he knew what he was saying was bad when he said it, otherwise he wouldn't have said
"...if gays can take a dick up their ass, they can take a joke."

Or at least reportedly said the above. I've not read about him denying anything he's been declared as saying, so I'm gonna guess he said the above too.

32. Agreed! I also enjoy when he's on the late night talk shows.
The guy is funny in a really offbeat way. I enjoy his comedy.

I'm waiting for the first performer who says something that angers any group to simply say: "Don't like it? Don't watch it."

That's all that needs to be said.

13. Nothing is sacred and gay jokes can be funny, this just wasn't funny in any way. Reminds me
of 'Dice' Clay. People used to think he was hilarious. Why? I have no idea. Hicks, Pryor, Carlin are really the only ones who could make me actually laugh out loud. There may be a couple more, Jim Jeffries is good. He does gay jokes, but they are self-depricating and funny. Louis CK, same thing.

21. I'm sorry Tracy did this. Eddie Murphy did the same thing, in an old stand-up act.
I'm pro-person, gay or straight. Morgan does good, and 30 Rock isn't anti-gay. No excuse for homophobic rants, but 30 Rock backs gay rights.

33. No yard, Eddie didn't say that. His homophobic rants on tour in the '80s
were very disgusting. "Endless repetitions of the word 'faggot' and jokes about 'that AIDs shit'" in his '83 HBO stand up Special.
(excerpt from Paul Slansky's 'The Clothes Have No Emperor', p. 73.)

I'm not gay, AND I don't want to kill ANYONE's gay kid with a knife. I just remember when Jack Donaghy, from 30 Rock, found out that his arch-nemesis was gay. Instead of thinking he could knock his rival off with the info, Baldwin said "He's even more powerful than I thought." and got more worried.

That is the good that Tina Fey, Baldwin, Krakowski, Morgan, et al, do for the gay community.

Where you are right yard, is that I shuddered to look up what Tracy said. I will back 30 Rock, and it will help America, gay and straight.

37. Yard, I will not.
30 Rock is the best show I ever saw on mainstream, that sez we are all the same. Gay, straight, black, white.
Morgan is exactly like Murphy in his first HBO special. Gay or not, I don't know.
I saw Tina Fey's snap, and she is exactly right. And 30 Rock is reaching millions, unlike the hateful things that Morgan or Jordan said in Nashville. As far as I know, he never stabbed his hypothetical gay kid to death.
He is wrong, but not evil. The repugs are evil. They are against all gays, even Log Cabin Repugs.

This rant didn't come out of nowhere. That was one of the most hateful demonstrations of homophobia I've ever heard of.

Including KILLING his own son if he admitted he were gay.

If this isn't hate speech, I don't know what is.
