Ladies, here's some advice from a conservative, freedom loving man who cares about you:
Drama Queens

by digby

Ladies, here's some advice from a conservative, freedom loving man who cares about you:

Don’t trust your male friends. Don’t go to a man’s home at night unless you’re prepared to have sex with him. Don’t disrobe in front of a male masseur. If you take a job as a masseuse, don’t be shocked if your male customers think you’re a prostitute. And if you want to be taken seriously as a journalist, don’t pose for pictures that emphasize your cleavage.

............................

Many of the tragedies mentioned about spring from what I see as a naïve faith in the power of the modern sexual revolution. Women today are technically free to do all sorts of things that were forbidden to their grandmothers, which is all well and good. But in practice, rape and the notion of sexual conquest persist for the same reason that warfare persists: because the human animal— especially the male animal— craves drama as much as food, shelter and clothing. Conquering an unwilling sex partner is about as much drama as a man can find without shooting a gun— and, of course, guns haven’t disappeared either.

Earth to liberated women: When you display legs, thighs or cleavage, some liberated men will see it as a sign that you feel good about yourself and your sexuality. But most men will see it as a sign that you want to get laid.

1. And, of course, it's always the woman's fault
because men are just unable to control themselves due to their "nature." :puke:

This kind of bullshit insults both women and men.

I go to my male neighbor's house alone all the time and he comes to mine to have coffee and chat. He's never expected me to have sex with him. Should I be insulted? And God forbid I should wear shorts while gardening and display my legs.

21. Yeah...so? If it's hot outside, women should be able to wear minimal clothing.
Would you like to ask me about how often I've endured sexual harrassment in the street? How much time do you have?

Oh, here we go. You asked, so now I'm telling you. I was propositioned for money, near my home, while walking the dog, sans makeup, wearing baggy jeans and a Johnny Cash sweatshirt. (20th & Capp st, San Francisco)

12. This is why a conservative date never made it through dinner
and I usually ducked out through the kitchen before ordering and left money with the maitre d' if not.

The sickening view that women are personally responsible for the actions of men is too much to bear, even through dinner.

13. It's like he doesn't even realize he's talking about himself.
We tend to think "most people" agree with our basic assumptions, even when our basic assumptions are bizarre. This writer thinks "most men" perceive a skirt to be a sign that a woman wants sex with some random man.

What do you suppose is on his police record?

20. Most likely he does harmless stuff like masturbate with a dirty diaper while peeping at a neighbor?
That, or he's a serial date-rapist. In any case, he's screwed up in the brain. Why doesn't he move to a muslim extremist culture where women are expected to wear burqas?

14. As a women who came of age in the 60s,
with mini skirts up to you know what, and "free love" all around, I say hogwash. Every hear the word BODY LANGUAGE? There were signs then, as NOW, that a woman wasn't interested. As they say, one look is worth a thousand words, or DRESS.

Edited on Sat Jun-11-11 05:59 PM by Urban Prairie
Why does this moran think that any woman would dress in any way to sexually attract or seduce just him in particular?

Bet that he fails miserably in his pathetic attempts at hitting on women, since the best method when only being physically attracted to females, is to feign sexual disinterest, and focus on that part above their necklines, which is what most relatively or very attractive women, especially those of whom have heard more than their fair share of wolf-whistles, one-liners, and come-ons, that I have met over the years seem to have really appreciated the most. Even when I was (and intended)to remain single for many years, and initially was only sexually attracted to a female acquaintance, I at least tried to make it appear that I was much more interested in getting to know her first. Any flirtatious female that I met back in my bachelor days, who made it quite obvious, and indicated by words or actions, that they were open to a romp in the sack, especially on a first date or meeting raised up a big red uh-oh!! warning flag in my mind as a result.

19. Wow.....
He couches it in advice to modern "liberated" woman, but what he is really saying is that you aren't liberated and you need to realize it and start acting like it's the 1800s again. I successfully managed to spend a week in the home of TWO platonic straight male friends without having to offer myself up to either of them. Imagine that!
