A question about Perry's Day of Prayer.
Edited on Sat Jun-11-11 08:21 PM by white_wolf
So Rick Perry is hosting a national day of prayer and invited a lot of anti-gay hate groups to come and pray. A lot of conservatives and Christians I've talked to have said stuff like "I applaud him for doing what he thinks is right" and "If you don't like it, just don't pray." What I wonder is would they feel the same way if say a Wiccan Governor held a national day of prayer and had Wiccan Priests and Priestess come and pray? No, they would be up in arms complaining about devil worship and other crap which shows their complete intolerance and ignorance of other people's belief system. I don't even think Governors should be allowed to organize these things, but I find the hypocrisy very annoying. If I ever become governor I should hold prayers to Thor and Odin just to see the Right's reaction.

1. If you become governor, and pray to Thor and Odin,
I want to be there, if only to drink the Holy Mead (or Sacred Ale, I'm not picky).

But you're right, the Christian right is massively hypocritical. But I find they are largely irrational, and beyond logical argument, so what is one to do?

3. Yes, Holy Mead for everyone.
Thor and Odin are really the perfect combo for governing. You can pray to Odin for wisdom and guidance and if end up in a situation where war is inevitable you can always ask Thor to destroy your enemies with Mjolnir.

2. When someone has a 'day of prayer', do they say it is a prayer day for
any particular deity, sect, belief, faith, or any such thing, or is it simply a 'day of prayer'?

If a person of a different belief system were to somehow find himself in such a gathering - either by accident or design - could not that person pray in whatever method he chooses? Or is one deity, sect, etc more powerful and drowns out the prayers of the others?

4. I have to say
I saw Rachel Maddow's show from last night (thanks to Roku Newscaster, which carries her show in full), and she's got me really worried about Rick Perry.

The fundies have lost their champions, they have only nutballs like Bachmann, Santorum and Palin (who might not even run) or unknowns like Pawlenty and Cain to base their hopes on. Perry gives them something they can really sink their teeth into, and the last Repuke president came from the Texas governor's mansion, as well.

Perry is scary. (Now there's a bumper sticker.)
