Shit. I just realized: Anthony Weiner = Chandra Levy!
Remember her? Unless you were on Mars a decade ago, of course you do! The disappearance of the Congressional intern on May 1, 2001 set off a months-long media frenzy: Cable news channels led with her story every night. Hell, even the broadcast networks had her at the top of the evening news most of the time from May to September: Oooooooh, how could such a young, attractive (read: white) woman go missing in a public park? Was she sleeping with Congressman Gary Condit? OMG OMG might Condit be RESPONSIBLE FOR HER DISAPPEARANCE???

The band played on.

In the meantime, two major stories were going virtually unnoticed: First, the Bush tax cuts---you know, the ones that led to the economic disaster we find ourselves in now---were going through smoothly, with relative quiet. (Except among those freaks who didn't seem to recognize the vital immediacy of a missing white girl. Did I mention that she was attractive?)

Then there was that other thing going on in the summer of 2001. Uh, what was it again? Help me out, here. Ah...I think it had something to do with Germany and Afghanistan.....yeah, yeah, I believe so. Something about a plan to, uh, to, er, harm us in some way. Yeah, that's it! Unfortunately, Our Glorious Free Press was so concerned with the (ultimately quite sad) case of Ms Levy that no attention was focused on news items that might have made the public question exactly who was getting the biggest tax break, and what long-term effect it could have, OR might have caused people in the government to focus more sharply on warnings they were getting from national security sources.

Ten years on, we have a Republican Party doing its damnedest to fulfill McConnell's Mandate to deny Obama a second term by pushing us toward a Depression (if we're not already in one). Hey, don't sweat it: Their friends will be just fine! As well, there's talk of us staying on in Iraq, plus whatever the smoke-and-fucking-mirrors show is being presented vis-a-vis Afghanistan!

But hey, we don't need to worry about any of that! C'mon, let's focus on Weiner's weenie, Palin's impression of LeBron James 2010, the new iPhone that'll be obsolete by the time you finish reading this sentence, and all the pretty colors!

You don't really need to find out/What's going on/
You don't really wanna know/Just how far it's gone/
Just leave well enough alone/Eat your dirty laundry
- Don Henley, 1982

Frighteningly prophetic, huh?

It was so obvious the lame stream media had completely ignored the REAL threats facing this country and the world.

Didn't those idiots realize that Condit's weiner was a greater threat? And now it's coming back to us with an ACTUAL Weiner!

4. remember Lori Klausutis? Of course not.
At the same time that Chandra Levy disappeared and Condit got media grief, Republican Joe Scarborough had an actual dead intern in his office. The media chastised Condit mercilessly, while Scarborough got a free pass and scant media attention.

Just like Weiner gets merciless media attention, but David Vitter gets a free pass.

Liberal media, my ass.

and if you want to see a man do a slow boil, ask Scarborough about that poor young woman whose name and life were besmirched in his macabre efforts to protect himself.

6. Remember the episode of South Park, where they called Condit a liar repeatedly.
Only to have him turn out to be totally innocent. Still catch it on reruns on Comedy Central.

7. Yes, but it just got a lot worse. I jsut saw Waserman-Schulz all over tv calling for him to step
down. That is worse than anything else that has happened regarding Weiner. I am furious. I may not vote next election because of this. HOW DARE the Democratic Party do this? Is there anything democratic left in the party?
I tried to email her (Wasserman-Schulz). her website says talk ot your own congressman; I'm too busy. You bet I will.

32. If you want to contact a Rep or Senator from other than your district or state
and you want them to read your email, then pretend you are from their district or state. If you dont think you want to do that, then dont bother sending them an email. It's easy. Look at the addresses of their local state offices and get a city and zip code. Then use those when you send them an email.

9. I'm still angry over that.
It may have been "inappropriate" to have an affair with an intern (even though she was an ADULT), but the Levy family and MSM destroyed him in front of the country. And have yet to hear an apology a year after the real killer was convicted.

Just saw her on This Week.

On a lighter---actually, a fucking hilarious---note, Piggy No One described Weiner's situation as "End-of-the-Roman-Empire Decadence." And, since she lived through the Roman Empire, I guess we have to take her seriously.

22. Weiner Will Be Yesterday's News Real Soon...
Unless they do find some young girl he made advances to or some other major bombshell, the shelf-life of this latest bright shiny toy will begin to fade. There's be another "scandal" or "outrage" or another Congresscritter caught with their pants down. Chandra Levy's sad saga dragged on for one big reason...we didn't have a body, thus the speculation could go on and on...which it did. The Weiner case is nowhere near as nebulous and has already been prolonged due to Weiner's own stupidity and arrogance. He'll fade from the scene while he tries to put his life and career back together.

37. Guilty??
It's astounding to see comments like this on a dem. board, seriously.

The guy engaged in cyber sex with adult women. Since when did this party become the party of family vaulues that sees 'guilt' in sex?

Unbelievable how easy it is for the Breitbart's of the right to control the message on the left. The bully yells, and scared little kid gives him his lunch money.

35. voice of reason here.
Yes, they were both big stories that took over the news and distracted from other things. But the Chandra Levy story was about a young woman who was DEAD. The Weiner story is about a bunch of extremely tame "naughty" pics and, as far as I know, no one got so much as a hangnail.

It really bothers me to equate a story about a WOMAN BEING MURDERED with a story about some dude's cyberflirting. Chandra Levy wasn't just a prop for a media flurry. She was a human being.
