Why don't women send online pics? Who says they don't?
Edited on Sun Jun-12-11 01:19 PM by Atman
I heard Erica Jong give her theory, I've read the thread about "powerful men," I've seen the tortured explanations on DU and elsewhere, but I've got a different explanation. It may not be popular, but I think it has some validity. You see, I know a couple of women who've sent sent pics to me via text. They were mutual friends of me and my wife (they were vacationing at nude beaches, no cyber-cheating going on). But they were younger than us, in good physical condition. Not in positions of "power" per se, but no burger-flippers, either. So here is my take on at least the "power" and Washington angle.

Name a few women in Congress or the Senate. There are several very attractive female reps from whom I certainly wouldn't mind receiving a picture. In fact, most men I know wouldn't mind receiving a naked pic from just about ANY woman. BUT -- and this is the root of my so-called theory -- most women I know, even if they are very attractive, think that they're not. They shy away from cameras if they're in a bathing suit, or if their hair isn't done, or if they don't like the outfit they're wearing. They are always saying "no, I'm too fat!" even if they're not. A couple of friends of ours will literally not leave the house without first putting on full war paint, even if it's for a trip to the grocery store. Women have been taught that they have look like Heidi Klum to be considered attractive. Meanwhile, men are willing to drop trou for just about any reason. We've seen that attractive women will even go for old fat guys if they're "funny" or "sensitive." Or rich, of course.

I don't think it's nearly as much a power thing as it is an ego thing. Men have egos, most often way out of proportion to their actual selves. Women tend toward egos that coincide with societally-imposed esteem issues, and that stops them from even considering sending a pic long before it gets to the power stage. But once they have power, they're much smarter about preserving it, rather than exploiting it as men tend to do.

Just my two cents. Sorry for posting more wiener stuff.

4. They do, I have received them. The reaction is out of step with reality and would be quite different
if we were discussing a Turd Way pol then we'd hear excuses on end and would be told that anyone saying anything just wanted a Republican to win the seat.

The most vehement voices against Wiener would and have rallied behind a man with more responsibility that commanded singular attention that was "stupid" enough to shoot a wad on a dress that belonged to a young intern, in the Oval fucking Office and LIED about it (vapors, vapors).

This whole deal is a bunch of bullshit.

5. Yes they do
and I think they do it more than men do to be honest. I don't see too many women begging guys for naughty pics, but many guys sure do. Then again, I am just a prude, haha.

8. Interesting responses...after a hundred threads claiming "Women don't do that!"
I know for a fact that women do send naked pics. But men are being pilloried in general because of Weiner. "What is wrong with men?!" It's been the subject of talking head shows, DU threads, everywhere. Interesting that so far here we've all received naked pics from the gender that supposedly knows better.

My favorite epitaph...can you imagine someone working at the photographer's studio not having a thumb drive? Mmm-hmmm.

12. I recall a couple of news stories of Wal Mart photo labs keeping albums
Digital media was the saviour of home-made nudie pics...then people started uploading them and were SHOCKED when they turned up online. Truth be told, all major advances in media have been driven by porn. Literally, historically. The printing press gained prominence because of small pocket nudie books. Can you say VHS? And who wasted money on Polaroids for anything but naked photos? Now it's digital and the interwebs. The only shocking thing is that people still pretend to be shocked that people take nudie pics. Maybe it's not the pics. Maybe it's our prudish American attitudes.

14. I think real women are attractive, Heidi Klum isn't.
It's sad that perfectly attractive women think they are "ugly" because they don't fit the fashion industry's twisted standards.

15. I agree with you completely.
I can't stand the super model look. All that high maintenence hair and make-up shit. In fact, I don't like make-up at all. But that's what advertising and magazines and movies tell women men like. And granted, there are plenty of men who like that plastic look. But I'm not one of them.

19. Men are also probably far less likely to get offended and run to the press
should they get a naked picture from a woman than vice versa.

20. They probably do. But they don't have an army of Rightwingers
headed by the very sick pervert, Breitbart, stalking them for months looking for those pics.

The problem is that if Breitbart gets away with this, it WILL happen to others.

22. Well, if she wants to, let them stalk her, she has a right to
do that if she wishes. And one day it will happen to a woman. And when it does, I will feel exactly the same way. It is nobody's business and the voyeurs and thugs who harass and stalk people are the bad guys imo, not an American citizen who has some nude photos of themselves in their personal accts or shared with other adults.

The virtual world is going to only increase the liklihood of this happening. And 20 years from now, when todays teenagers are running for office, there will be pleny of texts that, if we don't change this attitude, will destroy the opportunity for some potentially great leaders, to do so.

I wonder if back in the fifties or forties eg, a politician could have won an election if someone discovered he read Playboy?

25. " voyeurs and thugs who harass " i am told on du if not a voyeur, you are a prude
Edited on Sun Jun-12-11 05:26 PM by seabeyond
seems like we must all be voyeur or we get insulted. so seems like we very much defend and praise the voyeur.

a person that puts naked pics expect to not be bothered by the voyeur? i though the whole intent was to gather the voyeurs.

as far as our children growing up in tech world and what will be there to see? maybe parents and society as a whole ought to teach them that they have a hand and responsibility in their very own future. and that they ought to think about what they put on the net. it is part of growing up. being responsible. like every lesson in life we are teaching our children. they are clever enough to figure it out and the ones that want a future will not be playing this game. i already see it in their generation

lets not seem them as stupid, but much more. that is what we will get

parents need to do their job

24. Actually, if a man needs
reassurance about having an attractive body, there's very few "legit" ways he can get it. Only by becoming a bodybuilder like Arnold, but that's not even an option for many men (or for women--not all of us are turned on by that overdeveloped physique.)

Whereas there's LOTS of ways a woman can get it. I'm not talking porn stars or nude dancers. Just in the ordinary course of life: going to the beach, getting a job where women are expected to dress "hot," etc.
