A convenience store clerk in Redding scared off an armed robber this morning by brandishing a mop.
A Redding Police Department news release recounted events: At about 5:00 a.m., officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at a Circle K store at 2220 Westwood Ave., Redding.
The 31-year-old clerk told officers the suspect had worn a ski mask and wielded a baseball bat and a knife.
The clerk "fearing for his own safety, armed himself with a four-foot-long, wood-handled mop. The suspect grabbed a package of gum and a lighter and fled," police wrote.
The clerk followed the suspect outside and got the license plate number of his getaway vehicle, a green Ford Explorer. He watched the suspect drive into a nearby subdivision.
Officers found the vehicle a short time later. They arrested Zachary David Macdonald, 25, of Redding.
The knife, bat, ski mask and gum were found in the vehicle with Macdonald. Officers couldn't find the lighter.
Macdonald was booked into the Shasta County Jail on robbery charges.

Wow! That takes some courage to do that! I would just give him the money and prays that he flees.
