Rep. Anthony Weiner finally considering he may have to resign amid sexting scandal, says source

WASHINGTON - As a cache of embarrassing new photos appeared Sunday, Rep. Anthony Weiner finally began considering the possibility that he may have to resign.

A source close to the congressman told the Daily News that Weiner had been adamant about keeping his seat - even as the Democratic leadership urged him to quit amid daily new revelations of reckless sexting.

But the unrelenting media coverage, the demands he step down from his party's leadership, and the appearance of more humiliating photos made Weiner realize he may not be able to bull through the crisis after all, the source said.

TMZ published a new slew of squirm-inducing self-portraits, including several full-body shots taken in the House gym - some clothed, some not.

<SNIP>

Another source close to Weiner said the congressman was surprised it took two weeks for the gym photos to surface.

The lusty lawmaker is afraid of what Clinton, who has some experience with misbehaving husbands, may be whispering to Abedin, the source said."

In 2004, the Gooches purchased the Two River Times, a respected community newspaper with offices and employees in Red Bank that covers much of the Bayshore and Two River communities. Diane served as its Publisher and also launched a semi-annual magazine called “The Book,” to which she has contributed as both publisher and photographer.

Diane also serves as the Vice Chair, of the Monmouth County Republican organization, a position she has held since 2007.

84. she's in my area
She ran unsuccessfully in the GOP primary for congress last year to take on my representative Frank Pallone, even though she does not live in the district that she ran in (to her credit it is a very gerrymandered district). Her (husband's) billions (he's a hedge fund manager) were not enough to win a GOP primary and she lost to a teabagger who ran as a clone of Michele Bachmann.

I was actually relieved when she lost the (very close-- 83? votes) primary because we would not have to face her billions. I later tweeted to her that her yard sign had a new second life lining the cat's litter box.

30. Shows he doesn't understand the underlying structure of the event.
The slow roll out was much more psychologically damaging for the public response. One release all in a bunch, big fucking deal. But this slow meting out with the feeling always more and worse and worse to come...especially with online pros hinting at more and more explicit shots until, finally, WEINER RAPING CHILDREN! ON CAMERA, probably! Here, no less.

Exhaustion sets in. People just want the trouble gone. Long haul courage ...well, we'll save that for something important. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Of course, no one can explain why a hundred shots is worse than one or two. Either it was wrong or it wasn't. Why is quantity a factor if it wasn't wrong at two or three?

Is someone entitled to privacy for one sexual conversation or photo but not fifty?

This wasn't an outraged public. This was a professional hit.

49. Read up on the Delaware girl. Breitbart's goons were after her
Edited on Sun Jun-12-11 07:14 PM by emulatorloo
They were harassing her because she was a follower of Weiner.

Yes Weiner was stupid; but it is getting clearer to me that much of this is being engineered by the rightwing

ON EDIT: I am looking for a link for you to explain this, back soon.

Here:

====================================

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=439&topic_id=1283975&mesg_id=1284037

{b]sabrina 1: Well, we know what it was. The DMs have been revealed

I think there were five of them. In one of them she told Rep. Weiner that she was being harassed by Rightwing thugs (Breitbart's). He responded and apologized to her and to help to stop that harassment, he deleted her as a follower of his Twitter Acct.

I believe the police were called by Breitbart's gang to get a story in the news on Friday night and then let it sit there all weekend even if they knew the police would not find anything.

I wish the police would look into the Breitbart thughs who actually were the ones the girl was frightened by.

58. Quantity is a part of it. Eating a chocolate or two is fine. An entire box every day, not so much.
Throwing a stack of quarters into a slot machine is okay. Your life savings not okay.

Drinking a beer after work is okay. Drinking before breakfast, during lunch and instead of dinner is not okay.

56. A stunning thing for him to say
Whilst he was lying about being hacked, he was completely aware that the pictures and sext messages that would prove that he was lying would surface at any minute. His stupidity continues to astound me! Instead of simply confessing and making it clear that it was a private issue that he shouldn't have let become part of his public life, he was busy coaching complete strangers on how to lie for him. Quite frankly, after the Chris Lee resignation, he should have immediately stopped with his little hobby and prepared himself for the possibility of it coming out. Then he would have been able to confess to having made bad decisions in his private life, assured everyone that he has sought treatment and the story would have died in a couple of days.

If I'm keeping track correctly, he didn't warn anyone (at least the public) that these would be coming out.

I wonder if the Dem leadership knew about the gym pix (and the fact that he sent them out at all) when they made their statements yesterday?

More of a liability in the long term than he's worth. And he could have and should have chosen differently if he cared to safeguard his position. Arrogant to think he could get away with it, and stupid if he thought that as a DEM he would be able to skate under the media radar.

I think he was dead on with issues he took up. I am so mad at him. How much brains does it take to know if you mix any account with your actual name that it will eventually bite you in the ass. I mean for the most part I don't care what he does in his personal life as long as it doesn't mess with kids.

How can he not expect if these things haven his actual name or face tied to them they would not get out and the GOP would not use it to take him out...DEE DA DEE!

Anthony Weiner is one of thousands of liberal, well educated, articulate New York lawyers, gay/straight male female...

One person who has bad judgement and lies about that bad judgement should not stop us from electing another good person to well represent the interests in NY city.

That in itself was an accomplishment. Now he can resign.

That's interesting.. I didnt realize that was so close to being a done deal. So none of this really matters then??

57. Do not quit on us congressman!
We have stood by you. Through your lies and embarassments over this, we have stayed true to your core beliefs, your passion for your policy views, your championing of your liberal principles. many of us have had arguments defending your spirit if not all your actions. we need you. there are not enough true liberals in our government, don't deprive us of one of the best. a personal mistake by you should not cost all of us.

66. Because he shot himself in the balls. He's effectively neutered
as a strong progressive voice. And he has no one to blame but himself. His district would have forgiven him if he had just been honest at the outset -- and he wouldn't have felt compelled to lie to Pelosi. That was his downfall.

90. But
Breitbart shot himself in the balls, over and over and over again. He didn't manage to effectively neuter himself as a strong regressive voice. Breity's followers have forgiven him, though he has never been honest at the outset, or inset, or onset, or at the start-middle-end of any journalistic endeavor he's ever undertaken. Including this Weiner scoop.

Also, Breitbart has syphilis. (I read that somewhere on-line.) But his fans never give up on him, despite the fact that he has the penicillin-resistant strain, and despite all the self-inflicted gunshot wounds to his yarbles. The secret of the repugs' success.

most of us here appreciate that. What many of us dont appreciate is this scandal and the lying and the distraction it is causing for Democrats and for the whole country.

70. how about neither? Here's why for the hundredth time:
His recklessness. It's clear he cared more for his pursuits than for the causes he purportedly supports. The melodrama. This will go on and on. That he's no longer an effective spokesman for progressive issues and he never was an effective legislator. His craven lying- not just to the public but to his colleagues and to the leadership.

Would you have supported calls for his resignation?

After all, he was reckless, created melodrama, lied, etc.

was the President. The fate of congressional dems was tied to him in a major way. This is not true with regard to Weiner.

80. Because of his political views, of course! Not a single Democrat worth their salt, should demand
Anthony Weiner's resignation UNLESS and UNTIL Diaper Dave Vitter resigns, or at least MENTIONS it along with the call for Weiner's resignation.

I want Rep. Weiner to stay and fight. To resign is to buckle for Republicans (who have NO standing to even whisper for his resignation!) and for RepubliDems to get rid of true Democrats in our Party.

and he blasted Weiner- though he hasn't yet called on him to resign. As for Vitter, it's too late to do anything about him. I wish he has resigned.

You should work on that. Someone might take you seriously some day. Not soon. But some day.

So, essentially, you have become Weiner's crime?

The more you complain, the more HE should be punished?
