1. Don't know if they will report but CBS has story posted on website
PHOENIX - A second person denied transplant coverage by Arizona under a state budget cut has died, with this death "most likely" resulting from the coverage reduction, a hospital spokeswoman said Wednesday.

University Medical Center spokeswoman Jo Marie Gellerman said the patient died Dec. 28 at another medical facility after earlier being removed from UMC's list for a liver transplant needed because of hepatitis C.

Gellerman cited medical privacy requirements in declining to release any information about the patient.

Arizona reduced Medicaid coverage for transplants on Oct. 1 under cuts included to help close a shortfall in the state budget enacted last spring.

Officials at the Tucson, Ariz., hospital said the patient's death "most likely" resulted from Arizona's scaling back coverage for transplants, she said.

supporters -- never called them out for MEDICARE FOR ALL --

or anything else --

On the other hand, GOP has to rent their supporters -- Tbaggers/Kock Bros/oil industry

tools --

Same with everything else they have and paid for --

GOP/Christian Coalition --

GOP/NRA

GOP/"pro-life" fanatics

59. Actually it is treated as a right
with some exceptions, around first world economies.

Ironically they are the same MEDICAL exceptions that we use in the US... such as a drinker, don't get access to a liver, or age.

But money... that is not a qualifier.

It is called medico-legal ethics... I recommend people get familiar with it, and how these DEATH PANELS break those ethics.

You are wrong NashVegas. Transplants save a lives, it is health care. We can blow up hundreds of thousands of innocents in far away nations for oil at the tune of trillions, we can easily afford giving a hundred or so life-saving surgery for many thousands of times less. We are supposed to have the right to life. Poverty not allowing such a procedure interferes with that right. They should be covered.

Their standard of living advances astronomically after transplant.
Heart and kidney transplant patients specifically do extraordinarily well.

post-op,they can work again and support their families. You do the math.

38. ...points out a large flaw in repug view of poverty
the "US is the only country where all the poor people are fat" thing. True or not, there is far more to life than food, and far more to poverty than lack of food.

I live below the poverty line myself, and eat well and wisely, but I don't qualify for and can't afford any insurance programs, nor does my family. Its not a daily worry, but any medical issues were to arise we'd be on the chopping block too, so to speak. There is at present no expectation of social mobility toward greater access, and no "downward flow" of services, so poverty is a little like being shoved aside permanently, and still trying to appear as if it were not so.

7. Librul Bias! Librul Bias! Librul Bias!
Librul bias! Librul bias! Librul bias! :sarcasm:

And tomorrow morning, we'll hear the right-wing talking pin-heads screaming about 'librul bias' because they're attacking Jan Brewer's fiscal prudence. they'll also claim that their claims that President Obama's still-unfolding health care reforms lead to "death panels" and that what is happening in Arizona under Rethugly state government is positive "proof." :sarcasm:

:argh:

The most upsetting part is just how much of the presently-active electorate is going to buy into that right-wing talking-point.

I am increasingly convinced that the only successful cure for America's continuing love affair with so-called "conservatism" is enough pain so widespread over the rest of the population that Americans will be whispering about what happened under Gingrich, Boosh, Boehnor, etc. decades from now.

:dem:

13. I Don't Think We're Getting Good Reception on the Banks of the Red Denial
I don't think that progressives are getting good reception on the banks of Red- and Red-State Denial. Me, I'm not really a proper liberal, but I've met a fair scattering of people who used to be moderate and moderate-conservative Republicans who finally just couldn't stomach what today's Republican Party has changed into.

I thought there were enough of those people, as well as enough wishy-washy people like myself, along with enough genuine progressives to stop this TEA Party (expletive deleted) dead in its tracks in November. I'm still half-dazed and wondering WTF happened.

Here's hoping some more thinking people find themselves wrestling with their consciences as they try to fall asleep. And here's hoping that their consciences have been diligently working out and practicing their judo skills.

21. I'd be surprised if this will backfire.
People, including nazi party members, have known for years that 100,000 people are dying per year due to lack of health care, and don't give a toss. I don't think the attitude of one of my former co-workers of "too bad if people can't afford health care" is all that unusual. There's a lot of stupidity in this country to get worked up about a fetus being destroyed, but not care about when an adult is allowed to die due to not being rich enough to afford health care.

My thought was they would skip straight to blaming it on "Obamacare" and claiming its a part of the bill that was passed.

Im starting to agree with the rest of what you have said. Only I'm not sure that even that is going to be enough. They learned a lot of lessons from the fall of other totalitarian governments, I think. Particularly with the disconnected technological nature of our society, I could see them waiting till it hurts, then taking over by force. Then you are kinda stuck without a chance to have any change to allow us to think of bush and boner as the bad ol days.

"Brewer earlier Wednesday renewed her defense of the transplant coverage reduction but expressed a willingness to have it reviewed.

"It's something that probably needs to be discussed," Brewer said. "Everybody is concerned about it, as I am. The bottom line is ... that was one of those areas that we could cut and we moved forward on that."

60. Sick/dead/broke people don't visit Disney World
Or spend their dollars on the overpriced licensed (foreign-made) merchandise being peddled in their gift shops.

They are absolute sociopaths and will collapse under the weight of their own extremism.

extreme? Yes my accusation should be extreme... her policy decision is costing lives. It's tuime the people charged politicians this way everytime they sign legislation. You cause death, you pay.

54. I hope they pointed out that the first that died
even had the organ donated already by a relative...instead a stranger with insurance got the organ, because the money for the transplant had been withdrawn.

55. When people realize that the organs of the working class
will be given to the rich while their own folks die, the Brewers of this planet will have to run and hide.

62. Saw it...and was very surprised.
Edited on Fri Jan-07-11 01:48 PM by SoapBox
Considering the state of limp news reporting, we
were very surprised that they showed something that
looked badly for Arizona.

...I'll lay odds that tonight, they will soft soap it...

one of the Wicked Witch of the West. I keep seeing one video and her expression matches perfectly.

but first learned of the Arizona health care scandal on Thom Hartmann today.

79. I haven't watched network news regularly for months now.
Only PBS, MSNBC, NPR, and the Internet. Still, I am satisfied that the networks (I haven't watched the ABC report yet) can still come up with great hard-hitting pieces every once in a while in the sea of overhyped infotainment Lindsay Lohan goes to jail/Mel Gibson leaves threatening voice mails stories.

72. Who needs terrorists when our own elected officials are killing
Americans?

HEALTH CARE IS A RIGHT! These people are un-American, people who would deny the right to life to someone because of money!

Shameful! But sadly, that is just one of the over 44,000 killed by our health care system every year.
