(snip)

...We try to report news quickly, but only after ensuring as best we can that the information is accurate.

In Tucson, someone failed to ask: "Is Giffords really dead? How many sources say she is dead?" And in Weston Ranch, someone failed to ask: "Would the government really conduct a criminal raid over unpaid student loans? Wouldn't a failed debt be a civil issue?"

In both cases, the quest for immediacy overruled the tenet to be accurate.

And that is sloppy and irresponsible....

3. i do not understand the need to go in at what time was it to serve a warrant?
i mean, it still makes no sense. a little much. they could have come and served the warrant at any time. The sloppy reporting is a symptom of a larger issue that seems to be quite pervasive. I mean, why bother with fact checking when we can report now and there are no repercussions if we are wrong. How much of that is thanks to the 24/7 spin cycle news networks? The instant reporting of the internet does not require accuracy I suppose.

I thought it was odd to break down someone's door over student loans. Fraud and conspiracy makes more sense. We have seen at least with the news networks them jump in with breaking news when they don't even know what's going on. The one time there was a deer in a school yard I think. They are in such a hurry to be the first that they go way overboard. And then you end up in a situation where you get inaccurate information about fatalities and things of that nature.

What can be done to stop them? Can you make them be accountable for their reporting of inaccurate info?
