Question: Medical tort reform; Insurance vs. insurance.

Is anyone here in the know as to how much of an effect life insurance companies have on malpractice? How many law suits a year do they file? Do they file any at all? If an insurance company has to pay out say a good policy for a million or more and on review they find the cause of death was negligence; won't they go after the malpractice insurance for the money? How about health insurance companies? If someone needs life time care for a mistake are they going to eat up the costs or go after the doc?

How much of malpractice payout every year is from little folk and how much is from big wigs suing each other? Would we really see tort reform if these guys would stand to lose? What would life insurance companies do if loss of life payouts were capped at 100K and they have to pay out 1M?
