She has a tumor inside her mouth. It's sad being around her tonight knowing that and have her not knowing what's going to happen. My friend is in Afghanistan as a contractor dog handler.

they are both Belgian Malinois dogs. Will have to wait and see how her mate does without her around.

I have no doubt that your friend trusts you deeply, or you wouldn't be taking care of his fur-babies. He's going to know you did the best you could. You need to remember that, too. :hug: to you and to both of the dogs. Usually pets sense when something's not right with one of them, so I wouldn't be surprised if the dog's mate knows on some level that the end is near.

So sorry about one that has a tumor. No hope? Can't a vet remove it? :( I have a beauceron dog. I got her from a wonderful breeder who also raise Belgian Malinois dogs.

The tumor is bulging out under her eye and is getting bigger. She doesn't show pain but it must hurt and i think that is the reason my friend made the decision after talking with the vet.

11. I (will) feel your pain

My wife and I have a yellow lab named Hunny, who has had a wonderful life traveling with us on vacations and going on hikes in many states. She is a wonderful, intelligent, gentle companion who turned 14 in December (getting up in years for a large dog). She is still in very good health except for being deaf, but I know we can't expect to have her with us very much longer and it breaks my heart just thinking about it. :cry:

13. I'm so sorry

I had to have my dog put to sleep around Christmas last year. He had a brain tumor and he was in pain. Having him put to sleep was one of the hardest things I've done. I stayed with him when it was done and being there helped because it was so peaceful.

14. Ahh, damn, that is never an easy thing to do.

Last year, we put our ancient bulldog/boxer mix to sleep. He had doggie alzheimer's and was in really bad shape. My two other dogs were totally out of sorts for a few days...but when I brought home his ashes, our big boy-who'd lived with the boxer for a few years- walked over, sniffed the box the ashes were in, and laid down in front of the little shrine to our pets that we have.
I positively bawled.
Good luck and rest in peace to the pup.
