So the Republicans are going to steal the Anti-War issue.
And the Democrats are going to be defending waging war in Irag, Afghansitan, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Yemen and Libya.

Did any of you expect this when you campaigned for Obama, sent money to Obama, voted for Obama?

If Democrats supporting these wars does not put the lie to any pretense about deeper values underpinning party loyalty, I don't know what does.

I still can hardly believe it.

How the fuck did this happen and how did we LET it happen?

And the Democrats are going to be even further forced into a corner of not criticizing the Commander-in-Chief as we approach the 2012 election (we're already there actually).

So you will, from this point on, see an escalation in the Republicans anti-war speak -saying that there is no need to be fighting in these places and spending money we ned at home -while our side digs in its heels over Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan (and the others).

Jeezus, it's just plain old sickening. What do you tell the kids who you have raised up telling them that the Dems are the good guys that don't support war?

2. While I agree it's sickening, it's fine with me if SOMEBODY wants to make the point
"that there is no need to be fighting in these places and spending money we need at home." That's a point I can agree with, and I don't care who is making it. I may not believe that the Republicans actually believe this, but if they have figured out that it's "good politics" to say that they do, I'm not going to complain.

As you say, the sickening part is that the Democrats could never bring themselves to take the stance.

4. They can't bring themselves to take a stance on ANY damn thing any more.
Sickening beyond words.

8. You've got it!
Democrats now are wimpy straddle the fence politicians that can never bring themselves to hold true to the principles of the party. All that the party does these days is only to put things down on paper but not in practice.

3. You tell them that the Dem Party has left them, and millions of us, and
that it's time for a new party.
(read it fast - this post won't last long!)

5. I would rather say, it was Obama who stole the
war-mongering schtick from them first.

6. They didn't "steal" the Democrats abandoned it so they could look "tough" on terror.
Much like another Democrat decided to look "tough" on Communism in S.E. Asia.

10. Then you were wiser than me.
My oldest is 16 and when I started talking to her about it a decade ago or so, it didn't seem like a lie.

Sigh.

In my lifetime, Carter was certainly anti-war.

During Reagan, Dems were certainly anti-war.

During Bush 1 and Bush 2, they were almost all anti-war.

Even though Clinton had some military actions in his time, he was pretty laid back and judicious about it compared to Bush. It passed the smell test generally as "peace-making" except for his evil 8 year sanctions of Iraq.

But Obama has stepped up the level of military action in Afghanistan and promoted the odious use of drone missile attacks by desk jockey CIA in many countries.

And now, the tables have turned and been turned on us.
