Chinese-Made Counterfeit Weapons Parts 'Posing Risk To US National Security'

Washington, June 15 -- Chinese-made counterfeit parts are making their way into US military weapons systems, it has emerged.

For months, the Senate Armed Services Committee had said it suspected counterfeit electronic parts are infiltrating US military weapons systems.

"Counterfeit electronic parts pose a risk to our national security, pose a risk to the reliability of our weapons systems and pose a risk to the safety of our military men and women," Fox News quoted a leading Senator Carl Levin, as saying. He added that many at the Pentagon and within its contractors believe the threat comes from China.

"In January of 2010, the commerce dept published the results of a survey of almost 400 companies and organizations in the Department of Defense's supply chain," Levin said. "Those surveyed overwhelmingly cited China as the country suspected of being the source of counterfeit electronic parts," he added.
