WI recall elections: avoid the lines, you can vote up to 2 weeks early
at your city hall: http://www.wisconsinvote.org/

Early voting period at municipal clerks' offices now 2 weeks, rather than 4 and will end on the Friday before election day.

For the recent state supreme court election here my goddaughter (her second time voting) and I went to vote a our city hall the first day of early voting and it took us about 5 minutes.

Voter suppression is one of the Republicans' most favorite tactics and when Democrats choose not to vote for whatever reason, Republicans love it. In these upcoming recall elections there is no reason, none, for any Democrat to choose not to vote. We lose close elections because too many Democrats choose not to vote and then we cry and moan that the election was stolen.

We can overwhelm the Republicans in these elections because Democrats should be much more motivated to vote than Republicans. We more than any others should understand here in Wisconsin how important it is to turn out and vote. In these elections there will likely be many independents who agree with us and also more than a few Republicans (because some of them are public employees as well).

So everyone who has the chance, vote early and avoid any lines or lack of polling places.

2. So for the recall primaries we can vote early June 27-July 1,
and then July 5-8 (the 4th is on that Monday). It is easy, easy, easy, to vote early and to be done with it and not have to worry about casting your ballot on election day.

3. I guess you could avoid having to be asked to show an id too...
Although remember....

It won't be required, but poll workers will be asking for specific photo ID when you go to vote during the recall elections this summer. The Republicans in the Assembly and Senate have already swiftly passed the Voter Suppression Bill (Assembly Bill 7) by cutting off debate, and Governor Scott Walker likely won't find a conscience before signing it into law.

The bill includes a provision requiring that poll workers request to see specific photo ID before voting, but not requiring the ID to vote. The provision was added to confuse voters into believing they must show ID to vote in the recall elections, hoping to suppress Democratic voters in order to keep the radical-right stranglehold on Wisconsin. Don't be fooled, you don't have to show ID to vote until 2012!

The provision was added as part of the adopted Assembly Substitute Amendment 2 in section 144 (2) Special Procedure at Elections Held Prior to 2012 Spring Primary. The relevant text is:
"...an elector who votes at a polling place at an election held prior to the date of the 2012 spring primary shall be requested by the election officials to present proof of identification, but if the elector does not present proof of identification, and the elector is otherwise qualified, the elector’s ballot shall be counted without the necessity of presenting proof of identification and without the necessity of casting a provisional ballot."http://publius9.blogspot.com/2011/05/refuse-to-show-photo-id-when-voting.html

5. Only one recall covers parts of Waukesha County
We need to get rid of Alberta Darling. Please support Sandy Pasch who is a WONDERFUL Assembly Democrat going up against her:

6. Republicans are not omnipotent, able to steal elections at will, and WI is more than Waukesha county
Edited on Fri Jun-17-11 07:55 AM by elocs
as well. It is no secret that Waukesha is a heavily Republican county. Wisconsin elects Democrats and before Walker we had a 2 term Democratic governor as well as 2 Democratic senators in Feingold and Kohl.

Whining and accusing about having a close election stolen, there is no excuse for people not to turn out and vote. It is still easy to do.

Our last election here for the supreme court seat was lauded for having a great spring election turnout of about 33%. That still means that tens of thousands of Democrats did not vote and Republicans love it when that happens. (It doesn't concern me that thousands of Republicans did not vote either, but Democrats should have been much more motivated to vote in understanding the importance of the election.)

7. If "they" are giving more time to vote then something is up
Clerks like Nickolaus can replace the ballots at a more leisurely pace this way

8. Sorry, I refuse to claim to be a victim any time we lose a close election.
You know as well as I do that the entire state of Wisconsin is not Waukesha County. I don't believe for a minute that there are clerk everywhere like Nickolaus, certainly not where I live in La Crosse where we had a 40% turnout and voted 57% for Kloppenburg. There was no crying here about how the election was stolen in La Crosse County.

You also know as well as I do that we've had early voting here for a long time, that it's nothing special for this election. I voted early in 2008 for Obama and I will for our recall primary and election here.

I reiterate, that for any who actually believe that Republicans are so omnipotent and unstoppable that they can steal elections at will, then why bother to try? I don't believe they are omnipotent and I do believe that an overwhelming Democratic turnout can overcome any election shenanigans.

Let's be winners and not whiners.

9. I dont care what you believe, elocs - and don't call me a whiner because I believe otherwise
Edited on Fri Jun-17-11 02:55 PM by eowyn_of_rohan
I just am sick and tired of people who try to discredit or undo the hard work of people who have good reasons to believe our elections lack integrity, transparency, accuracy, and accountability. Did you work on the recount, elocs? No, I dont think you did. Have you researched the known fraud that occurred in the 2000, 2004, and 2006 elections? Please stop trying to undermine the work of those of us who have.

btw- you sound an awful lot like those people who called us "Sore Losermen" in 2000. Did you like it then? Why would you want to do it now?

11. Guess what? I don't care what you believe either. I call 'em as I see 'em.
Too many Democrats whine about every close election that is lost, but thousands do not turn out to vote.

Oh, and you don't know anything about me, but feel free to speculate away.

12. There is no whining going on, elocs. I have not seen or heard any whining over this issue
There are serious problems in our election system in Wisconsin, whether you care to believe it, or admit it, or not. Election system dysfunction is not a partisan issue, and it is a separate issue from voter turnout. We have problems in both areas in this state and all over the country.
