A frosty morn in Or-e-gon
It was 25 degrees at 6am at the fire lookout tower. The visibility was near zero
in fog and mist that was blowing in over the top of the butte from the
north. With those conditions, it didn't take long for rime ice to
build up. Fortunately, the fog lifted before the ice got too thick.

The dispatcher just read the fire weather over the radio. The
unseasonably cold conditions will last through the weekend. The fire
danger level has moved from "low" to "moderate" ("high" near the Deschutes River). I doubt that we will
see "low" fire danger again this season.

Precipitation is in the forecast for this weekend: rain in Bend and
snow at the higher elevations. Tomorrow (Friday) will probably be the
nicest day of the week up here with sunny skies, light winds, and
69-degrees. Next week: warming.

I know, I know .. you folks in the southeast don't want to hear this.

5. excellent!
I have "Google" imaged the towers, but have not found interior shots. What an excellent summer you have to look forward to; can't wait to see more photos-

2. That last picture is like a cool breeze
After spending the afternoon out in the 90+ temperatures! At least it was cooler today, only up up 91 here at the farm. Yesterday the local weather station set a record for the day of 105, though we were at about 97.

Keep posting those frosty pictures - they make me feel cooler here in the toasty South!

And I bet Nick loves that frosty weather!

6. I am at 6400 feet above sea level.
The lookout is just a little house on stilts. It is well insulated, and with the new 20,000 BTU heater it is quite cozy.

I'm at 6200 here in Tahoe... we had t-storms yesterday afternoon, just enough to cool it down and clear up for a beautiful sunset.

8. Central Oregon is great.
I loved visiting Bend and Sisters. Used to go to the Inn of the 7th Mountain; there was one spot along the Dechutes there with a rock jutting into the current--you could sit there and watch the lava fields on the other side. Went to some of the reservoirs there, rafting on the Dechutes.

Rather wish I were there now. I'm sort of envious.

As for the temperature, it's better than the ennervating Houston weather. High, 99; low, 75. Next day, high, 99; low, 75. For variation, have the high dip down to a frigid 98 or soar to a pleasant 100 or 101.

25 F? Ah.
