*snicker*
reminds me of the scene from "Night of the Living Dead": "They're coming to get you, Barbara"

Republican Utah Rep. Jason Chaffetz reacted to news that a leading national Tea Party-affiliated organization is targeting Sen. Orrin Hatch by saying Hatch has “been on the wrong side on a lot of major issues.”

In an interview with The Daily Caller, Chaffetz admitted he’s actively considering running against Hatch for the U.S. Senate next year but won’t make a decision for several more months.

“I’m going to continue to proceed with my decision making process and hope to make that decision after Labor Day,” he said Thursday.

Chaffetz predicted that “there’s going to be a lot of interest in the race.”

“I have great respect for Sen. Hatch, but I think he’s been on the wrong side on a lot of major issues.”

1. What's to laugh at?
This is precisely the kind of thing we should be doing.

Their base and grassroots are targeting what they consider insufficiently conservative congresspersons and Senators (they call them RINO's) in deep red states they know they will win.

It's a smart strategy. It allows them to put far right wing conservatives in office without the risk these nuts will be defeated. It furthers their agenda, movement and pushes the debate in this nation further to the right.

This is precisely the kind of thing progressives should be doing - knocking off our conservadems and DINO's in deep blue states and replacing them with more progressive voices. The more Democratic a state trends, the more progressive our candidates should be.

4. No, I'm saying that the far right...
...claim Hatch isn't conservative enough. So they will primary him and put someone MORE conservative in, and they know they can do it because this is Utah we are talking about.

The point is, we should be primarying conservadems and DINO's in deep blue states so we can fill those seats with more progressive lawmakers. In very Democratic states we should be running the most progressive candidates as possible.

What they are doing is not stupid, it's smart. Their base may be nuts, but politically what they are doing is very effective.
