Dear Dems,
I am impressed that you were able to band together to accomplish tearing down one of the most passionate defenders of our democracy. Anthony Weiner disappointed me when this whole scandal broke. It made me sad to see this man who could be so powerful, so prescient in his defense of the actual things that matter to this democracy, flailing about as if drowning.

You, Democratic leadership, had the ability to mobilize, not necessarily in support of Weiner's actions, but in defiance of a ridiculous media circus that serves only to avoid talking about what is absolutely necessary to right this sinking ship. A modern, intelligent leadership would have created a huge wave of "tweets" to young women of profane images, not of sexually charged photos, but those of murdered Iraqi civillians, starving Americans, graphs showing wealth inequity and other truly profane images.

But instead, you did exactly what Republicans do every single day. You started pummeling the hell out of a straw-man in order to draw attention away from your own ineptitude. Why do all the true progressive populists fall from grace so stunningly? And why, in the name of all that is good, do you pull the safety net when they do?
