"President Bachmann will allow you to buy any light bulb you want”

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) took aim Friday at a law mandating more energy efficient light bulbs, vowing to overturn the requirement if elected president.

"President Bachmann will allow you to buy any light bulb you want,” Bachmann said at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in New Orleans, La.

Bachmann touted her Light Bulb Freedom of Choice Act, which would repeal a provision in the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 that requires traditional incandescent light bulbs to be 30 percent more energy efficient beginning in 2012.

Republicans have cast the provision as a “light bulb ban,” arguing that it will disadvantage incandescent bulbs in favor of more expensive LED (light-emitting diode) and CFL (compact fluorescent light) bulbs. ...........(more)

6. Are light bubls really the most power consuming thing in your house?
Edited on Fri Jun-17-11 05:36 PM by drpepper67
Some people leave computers on 24/7 and/or sleep with a TV on.

I just don't see a 60 bulb as much of big deal.

11. A light bulb is a very inefficient heating device
Edited on Fri Jun-17-11 06:36 PM by nichomachus
That also produces a small amount of light. They waste a lot of energy to achieve their aim. Are they the most energy using thing in the house? No. That would be the pool, if you have one. The refrigerator uses a lot. But light bulbs are easily swapped out for more efficient models and doing so on a national basis would save a tremendous amount of energy. They are a problem. "If every U.S. home switched just one light, it would still prevent about 9 billion lbs. of greenhouse gas emissions from entering the atmosphere, according to Energy Star estimates." Imagine if they switched all their lights.

16. My computer uses about 250 watts while it's running. That's 2.5 100 watt lightbulbs.
Bulbs are regularly replaced, though, so while you might not replace your computer for 5 years with a more efficient one, you will replace your bulbs, if they're incandescent in a year or two, so it's the quickest way to reduce power consumption.

Do I really need to use the sarcasm smiley?

This creature from another planet is really running for president? God, if only I had that kind of confidence self delusion.

By the way, I don't ever want to see these words used next to each other again--President Bachmann

14. And how many jobs does this create, Michele?
The fucking Republicans took over the House of Representatives promising to fix the Jobs Crisis. What do we get? Light bulb shit, abortion bans, overturning the healthcare bill.

Remember the big stink they made about putting the Constitutional authority for any bill they wrote into the bill text? Well, they're not doing it. Example:
