Should I cancel my Sunday paper for putting Baby Russert on the Father's Day cover of Parade? ha
Edited on Sun Jun-19-11 07:09 AM by Divine Discontent
Oh, if it wasn't for the wonderful coupons!

I usually like reading that insert, but when I saw "What I learned from My Dad", I threw it to the side in disgust.

It's comical to see Russert the Lesser be propped up in the media as a knowledgeable source within the beltway and given a cushy job because of the great work his father did in helping sell America the scandalous warmongering that has bankrupted us to the point of near collapse. Progressives know how helpful his dad was at the interview desk! I am amazed at how this country has allowed the illegal actions of the previous administration and those who helped sell it to America go unpunished. It's as if no one wants to even think about it! BLINDERS!

Speaking of Luke's appearances on TV, shouldn't he have spent some years earning that position? He is painful to listen to, and repeated, "that being said" three times in one sentence, most likely because he didn't know what else to say.

As someone said when Tiny Russert got schooled by Rep. Rangel and they felt he had received the financial blessings of his Dad's "work" with the B*sh Administration, 'Luke Russert sat home and got cushy internships while many others his age went to fight a war that his father helped the Bush administration sell to the American people. If he had any integrity or moral fiber he would resign his six figure job and go join the military to fight in Iraq.'

PS - Happy Father's Day to all you dads, and those who do 'dad' things for others!

2. I see nothing wrong with the young man, but I see an lot of
self-righteous envy and jealousy from some DU members who probably wish they had it so easy breaking into their chosen career.

I try to give the young man the benefit of the doubt. I'd also like to see him do some real "reporter" beats, maybe in the Middle East, or even just back in Buffalo, before making it big time.

5. So you're OK with someone winning the sperm lottery getting the job over someone....
...who worked hard to be qualified for it?

13. he is...
and he also commented dissent towards Omaha Steve in OS's big thread, too.

Too many people are okay with a lot of things. Sad.

we don't always agree with each other!

What a revelation that thread was!

Sometimes I wish there were more maturity here, but I see that's just a wish.

19. Let's just say I save my energy for worthwhile issues to
bring all sorts of hatred and ill-will towards.

Son of Luke, not even on my radar screen.

9. I guess you're not familiar with the word "nepotism", let alone the propaganda of his father.
Edited on Sun Jun-19-11 07:10 AM by WinkyDink
Moreover, your "I'd like to see....Middle East" completely undercuts your asinine accusation of "envy and jealousy" towards OTHERS!

14. thank you for your post.
The quick rec my thread got about the painful nepotism involving Russert, was quickly erased when he posted. I am not sure why he doesn't see how ridiculous Little Russert is, and his rise in the media ranks, but it's quite unfortunate to see on DU. He also posted some dissent toward Omaha Steve in that thread. So, as one may guess, he doesn't agree with us on a few issues... ... ...

21. Do you understand the meaning of the word "undercuts"?
Edited on Sun Jun-19-11 11:41 AM by JAnthony
I stated my opinions.

You seem to have a problem with people stating their opinions if they do NOT agree with yours.
That's MY observation of your post.

That does NOT "undercut" your "assinine accusation".

My suggestion to you: use the "ignore" feature instead of the "insult" comment. OK?

Your posts will look a lot less filled with hatred and anger and unresolved complexes if you do.

23. He's just the kid of "a company man", in a company-town
Not much different from when the owner of the furniture store dies & then his kids start running the store..

Russert did not "own" the "store", but he did make a big deal of fatherhood, and his relationship to his own Dad & to his young son.

"Young son" was in the perfect place & time in his life when Tim died..I was not a bit surprised when MSNBC gave him a job. People need to remember too, that this kid grew up in a very news-politics oriented home, so he probably already knew many of the people he now interviews for his wages. The sudden death of his father gave him an immediate "in" with the DC-set. Whether they liked or disliked Tim Russert, they would surely agree to at least meet with his young son following in Dad's footsteps.

MSNBC just saw a great opportunity, and so did Son-Russert.

I'll reserve judgement on him for now.. he's no better or worse than most of the rest.

16. coupons
You should think about whether the savings from the coupons actually offsets the cost of the subscription. In my experience you have to be pretty dedicated to coupon use to make that work. Maybe you are.

the cover is in bad taste, because it is all about Tim. And Happy Father's Day to all DU Dads!

"No matter how hard something is, if you're willing to work, you can succeed. I'm forever grateful to Dad for that lesson."

ROTFLMAO Good one little Russert.

15. Since your local paper is not in control of Parade I think not.
You should write a letter to the editor of your paper with your thought and if there is some way to contact Parade do that also.

17. If you normally like the insert, are generally satisfied with the paper itself,
get good use from the coupons you find in the inserts, why would you want to cancel because of one instance that displeased you?

As for "that being said", it is no worse than people using "just sayin'" at the end of a statement they probably cannot support with facts.

You might need buttons that are harder to push.

18. The paper itself has no control over what goes in the Parade
but if you want to blame it anyway....

most papers nowadays have right-wing slants, and then wonder why readership is down.

22. I stopped respecting old man Russert years before he died
When the only times he did his in your face act was with Democrats and when he gave a pass to all the lies from the Republicans. So I would have canceled that Sunday paper years ago.

But in reality, it's totally up to you.

24. Here's a DU blast from the past:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=4946785&mesg_id=4946785

As for Li'l Lukey, even nepotism can't fully explain his having that job. He's got to have some dirt on some of his dad's old NBC colleagues.
