2. Ha. Spot on. The whole end of life discussion theatrics is such a smoke screen.

I've been around the issue with medical personnel, family and friends. It's a *healthy* discussion and any MD worth his/her salt is open to it, imho.

5. How do they bill for this service? The proposal was just that they be paid for doing this.

If they are billing it somehow else and getting paid by insurance of some kind, perhaps whatever billing option they are using is not available to all physicians?

Having been around this process 5 times now, including with 2 husbands, I think anything that clarifies what is going on and provides a more objective perspective from a knowledgeable outsider, could be helpful. I would go as far as to mandate that it be offered, but not that it be accepted. I'm not entirely sure that it should be the attending physician who does it, but I don't think it ought to be hospice professionals either.
