Stanley Kurtz Declares Bachmann Really, Really Smart
Posted on: June 20, 2011 9:55 AM, by Ed Brayton

Stanley Kurtz, like Newt Gingrich, fancies himself one of the intellectuals of conservatism. And at the National Review Online he declares that Michelle Bachmann is way smarter than those eggheaded pundits want you to believe.
Seems like only yesterday when Michele Bachmann was supposed to be dumb. Come to think of it, it was yesterday, until about 8:30pm anyway. I found out how silly it was to think of Bachmann that way late last year, when I heard her speak at David Horowitz's Restoration Weekend. I was sitting at a table full of professor types. We kept turning to each other and saying, "This woman is sharp, not at all the dunce she's been portrayed as."

Nowhere does he even attempt to support this argument. There's not a single sentence devoted to a good idea Bachmann may have espoused or some bit of trenchant analysis she had offered. But she sounded good in the debate and she sounded good in a speech he heard once, so she must be smart. Golly, I'm convinced.

...

As PolitiFact reported recently, Bachmann is the only politician whose claims they have investigated and never found a single one that was true. That she can spout nonsense with confidence and eloquence does not magically render her words trustworthy or thoughtful.

1. "only politician whose claims they have investigated and never found a single one that was true"
Bachmann - 100% lies 100% of the time

When 99% lies isn't enough!

5. I dont believe she's dumb
She's graduated law school, but being smart and having bad ideas are not mutually exclusive, nor is being smart and being batshit crazy or blinded by religious and partisan extremism.

I suspect that if you could remove the religious and personality filter and just access the logical circuits of her brain, she might make a bit more sense...but those circuits were long ago re-routed.

7. You don't have to be smart to be a lawyer
Just smart enough. If your client and the opposing side are complete idiots, an imbecile can be a great lawyer.

6. Well thanks. This one made me smile - the way a person smiles when they
hear something to utterly ridiculous that you smile while you shake your head from side to side and ask yourself if you read the article right? So thanks for the laugh.

She is like a doll with permanently wide staring eyes who doesn't have a button that you have to press to hear words. She's always speaking. She is a turned on drama queen and there are no buttons to touch to turn her off. I call her a female Reagan.

8. Kurtz? From Apocalypse Now?
I did not know his first name is Stanley--but now it all makes sense.

I'm starting to feel a Dennis Hopper quote coming on...
