New bride arrested for biting, beating her husband hours after wedding (Florida)

Looks like the honeymoon's over.

A 30-year-old Florida woman was arrested just hours after her wedding for beating and biting her new husband, cops said.

Bernadette Catan-Keeler, 30, was charged with domestic violence battery Sunday after her new hubby told police she attacked him at a hotel and then later at their home in Lighthouse Point, Fla, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

The two were celebrating their nuptials at a Ft. Lauderdale club Saturday night when Mike Keeler said he spotted his new bride dancing with another man, the newspaper reported. ............(more)

3. The shortest marriage I ever observed first-hand was a family member...
A cousin...it lasted 3 months.

Patty Dukes's second marriage lasted 13 days.

This one may be shorter than that...

10. I once represented a man who was continually abused by his
wife. At first I didn't believe him until he started rolling up his sleeves and pantslegs, showing me numerous "injuries" over the years. He was hit with hammers, cut with knives, iron pans, etc.etc. etc.

Once she literally beat him almost to death right outside the courthouse after a hearing.

I didn't know until then that there is a population that exists like this. It's not spoken about much and is kept in the dark.

26. Sanctity of marriage
I used to work in family court. I've seen it all. The one that stands out is the woman who came in to get a divorce/annulment. Se didn't know she was married. She was going through some old papers and found a wedding certificate from Las Vegas. Then, she remembered that she was at a party there one night years ago, got drunk, and she and some guy at the party went out and got married as a joke. Unfortunately, the marriage was still perfectly legal.

She had no idea who or where the guy was. So, she had to go through hell to finally get it annulled because she couldn't serve papers on him. It cost her a few bucks.

And really. People don't always say what they mean? Well, hell. The internet is your very own persona Rorschach test, then. You want feminists to be nothing but mouth breathing man haters? Easy peasy. Just interpret everything they say to mean that. They're saying X when they really mean Y. Again. Convenient. Which is pretty much what I've always suspected. This isn't the first time someone's claimed that a thread or post is proof that such and such group always says X, and the thread or post does no such thing.

never said that, never went there. you did. you seem to have your own thoughts about the entire thing and are blind to anything else.

All I ever said was some think it never happens, and I was being sarcastic and hyperbolic at the same time, which again, you didn't seem to understand.

More to the point, there were people there who would post studies about female on male violence and the response would be a post of statics about male on female violence, about how men murder and rape women. That there's is no way men are ashamed to report it, so it female on male violence doesn't happen enough for it to matter.

I direct you to post 127, since I know how blind you are. For that matter, you should read through the thread. But of course, you participated in the thread, so you know all about it.

Well. It's a big old world. Look hard enough and I'm sure you can find people with some pretty crazy opinions, I'm sure. But if you make the assertion that there are a significant number who think it never happens on DU, which is certainly what one would think you were asserting with that "hyperbole", then expect to be called on it. ETA oh, and what of post 127? All I see is someone pointing out the flaws of a study

I can see that some may minimize it, may (for whatever reason) think that female-on-male violence is rarer than it is in reality.

But I can't imagine someone saying "it never happens".

It's good to know no one ever has said so to you.

67. Well I've seen studies that say 5/6 of the aggressors are male and call bullshit on your claims.
And it's up to you if you'd like us to improve on the high standard of scholarship you have chosen to establish here -- "I've seen studies," no citation.

You must be a professor of everything!

74. The real issue is the quality of the scholarship
http://www.oregoncounseling.org/Handouts/DomesticViolenceMen.htm and http://www.menstuff.org/issues/byissue/dvstatistics.html show up in Google, there are lots of other examples. The real issue is not the specific numbers it is how they are derived, and to that there is some well deserved criticism towards both sides.

Here is an attack article out of what is now Slate against the men as victims too perspective: http://www.doublex.com/section/news-politics/mens-rights-groups-have-become-frighteningly-effective . Here is response to it http://www.forbes.com/2009/11/19/mens-rights-feminism-equality-violence-opinions-contributors-cathy-young.html At times their seems to be more name calling than discourse.

FWIW, my quip was just to point out what happens when you question the orthodoxy...the status quo people, even so called progressive ones, get very upset. The Pink Pistols are a similar case in point.

79. I hope nobody thinks this is racist...
but she looks like she might have some Cuban in her. I used to know a Cuban woman who WANTED to be bitten, especially on her lips while kissing. Coincidence? Cultural mating ritual? I was certainly surprised at a woman wanting that.
