Remorseful Keith Olbermann Will Stop Running Into Rachel Maddow's Show
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/keith-olbermann-rachel-maddow-current-205460

Keith Olbermann is calling a truce with his protégé Rachel Maddow.

He announced on Twitter that his Current TV show will be just one hour -- and no longer overlap into Maddow's MSNBC show, potentially hurting her ratings. He had been criticized online after his premiere ran four minutes late.

"At @current we’ll soon have a 9 PM companion commentary show to mine. But in the interim there is no reason for me to be overlapping with my friend Rachel, nor to ignore the wishes of those who’ve been so loyal to both of us for so long. We’ve heard you: as of tomorrow night Countdown finishes at 9. Bonus stuff will instead go to Countdown Online. Thanks for upsiding my head on this :)" He Tweeted.

Olbermann said last week in an interview on NBC's Late Night With Jimmy Fallon that he'd like to see Maddow come to Current once her contract is up.

In One Night, Keith Olbermann Obliterates Eric Bolling’s Fox Ratings

June 23, 2011 9:08 am ET by Eric Boehlert

This week, Keith Olbermann debuted his Countdown show on Current TV, having left MSNBC earlier this year. According to Nielsen numbers released by Current, Countdown’s Monday night debut attracted 179,000 viewers between the ages of 25-54. It was an impressive showing for Current, a cable channel whose primetime audience in the past has hovered around 30,000 viewers.

Countdown did well enough to beat out its CNN competition in the 8 p.m. time slot. What’s also telling is how, in just one night, Olbermann managed to completely obliterate the ratings of Fox’s Eric Bolling, whose nightly Fox Business show continues to be mired in a ratings wasteland.

We recently detailed Bolling’s Nielsen woes and how the rising Fox News star seems to failing upward under Roger Ailes. And we noted that for the all-important 25-54 demo, Bolling's nightly program this spring averaged just 14,000 viewers. (For the record, there are 122 million 25-54 year-olds in America; just 14,000 of them watch Bolling.)

8. Considering how few people actually have access to his channel, it's pretty good.
Also, The Young Turks podcast has more subscribers than Fox Business Channel has viewers.

13. Fox is only slightly better. I think they have a 2 share or something.
When you consider that CBS, NBC & ABC combine for a 26 share, those numbers are minuscule.

25. You're Comparing Apples to Elephants
Those shares on the major networks are not for commentary/analysis shows. You can't compare the two with any reasonableness.

It's not a matter of raw numbers, but comparison of numbers for shows with similar missions.

by comparing them with other "news" shows.

Simply put, a 0.16 share is a small audience. A very small audience.

60. Countdown got twice as many viewers as CNN
And right on the tail of LOD. Not a bad start for a network that is currently in 37% less households than CNN and MSNBC.

has right now is what MSNBC had in 2002 right? We might very well be watching history repeat itself.

Laugh all you want, for their share it was an impressive show.

50. I used to love Stephanie, and even when I did I really did not want her on TV
at least not on a news/commentary show. Let's face it, she's not that brilliant or articulate. And I can't listen to her show anymore now that she's just an Obama apologist. I had already cut down on it because I was sick of that whiny guy, I forget what his name is. Gawd was he annoying.

I honestly feel she did a disservice to progressives when she was on TV shows.

I used to listen to Stephanie on the radio, but whenever she was on TV, I was embarrassed for her. I remember when she did the early morning slot on MSNBC for a week (pre-Morning Joe) and it was pretty awful. Some radio personalities do not transition well to TV.

Is everyone's TV stuck on Current TV until Keith's show is over? Is there a law against changing the channels or something? They guy has a new show and is working out the kinks. Big deal.

used to diminish ratings for a following show on a competitor network.

27. Back in the early days of TBS, Ted Turner used a similar technique...
Instead of starting shows at the top and bottom of the hour, they'd start five minutes after the top and bottom.

(See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TBS_(TV_channel) and scroll down the page to "Turner Time.")

I had recorded the show, not knowing it would intentionally go over so I missed the very end of the show. Toward the end of the first show, he said that it wouldn't end on the hour, but it was too late to do anything about it. Whatever his reason, it was a bad idea and I'm glad to see he is not doing it anymore.

she would get paid less. and she wont be in Keith's situation where she would have had a contract that they would have paid to get rid of her.

plus she has more influence on msnbc. it's good to spread our side around rather than all grouped into one place.

i'm glad he got rid of the overlap minutes.

46. I hope he doesn't over-do it. Right now there's a lot of potential to make that a major league news
network.

If they start muddying it up with too much opinion, it's going to be known as Al Gore's Librul channel.

They need to focus on the content the rest of the day, then once it's more mainstream and sought after for it's other content, then maybe talk about more opinion shows.

But a companion show? How much Keith do we all need? That's like MSNBC, every hour they repeat the same talking points. Usually ones that came out of a republican's mouth.
