Lake Waconda, Ne. levee leaking (pretty much all up & down the Mighty Mo)

There is no way the 50 year old levees will stay intact until December when the flood water level will finally drop.

The few remaining residents at Lake Waconda in Cass County, Neb., were asked to sleep somewhere else over the next few days, Cass County’s emergency management director said.

A new threat to the Missouri River levee there developed Sunday, prompting the request, said Bill Cover, the emergency management director.

Another “soft spot” on the levee appeared where Missouri flood waters are seeping through, Cover said. Repairs to that area were expected to be finished by Thursday.

There are 228 homes around the lake, with 38 of those having permanent full-time residents. Most people already have evacuated. Those living at seven or eight homes remained, deciding to ride out the flood dangers, he said.
