Woolsey Will Not Seek Another Term

Ten-term incumbent Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-CA), "who has been one of the strongest antiwar voices in Congress, announced Monday that she will retire at the end of her term, setting up a battle to represent the liberal district in 2012," the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Woolsey's district will probably be reshaped after California's political boundaries are redrawn during the state's once-a-decade redistricting, but it likely will remain Democratic.

1. She'll certainly be missed, but there's little danger of losing the seat
Her replacement will almost certainly be about as progressive.

Yes, the districts are getting redrawn, but she's surrounded by roughly equally blue districts. The next Democrat may not match her normal 30-40 point victory margin, but the only "battle" will be for the Democratic primary.

All IMO of course.

2. The battle may be in
the CDP shoving their hand-picked candidate into the race and putting all Party Machinery behind that candidate, starving all others, particularly progressives. That's not a prediction, I'm just suggesting the people in the district be aware of this particular tactic.

3. Her district will more than likely become part of Mike Thompson's
I would welcome a challenger to Mike, but he will probably prevail. We call him the best Republican the Democrats have.
