Is it strange to say that I have absolutely no idea what the Casey Anthony case is about?
It leads the news almost every morning, but I have no idea what the underlying crime was or where or when it happened. Nor do I feel I need to know.

1. It is strange...I'm not following at all and still I know...
Edited on Wed Jun-29-11 01:57 PM by joeybee12
kind of hard to avoid it.

And on edit, that doesn't mean I care about it...I'm like you..I don't care at all.

3. I generally think it's odd when people make announcments about things they don't know about and
don't want to know about. Short answer: Yes. It is strange to say it.

4. Yes, it is strange because it is all over the news.
She is accused of killing her 3-year-old child.

6. If you don't keep up with the latest media gossip then what do you have to talk about?
You can't even talk about the weather any more without dipping into politics, it's damn difficult to find a subject for conversation beyond the ridiculously superficial that doesn't have a cultural minefield to tiptoe through.

7. Don't feel bad. I've seen a little about it but don't keep up with it.
It's a terrible story but as far as I'm concerned it's local. Unfortunately, what happened to her child has happened to many children. The media decided Casey Anthony was a cold hearted wench and the story was sensational so they've pumped it every day. I see the headlines but don't read it.

8. It's not strange
I was blissfully ignorant until about a week ago when CNN suddently decided it was news. Good Lord. How does this affect anyone other than the people involved? Why do I need to know this? Give me a break.

10. I think people who don't depend on the major outlets are in this with you.
It's rather disgusting to see this terrible event being turned into fodder to attract viewers and raise ratings. I caught one report that had the same tone as coverage of any basketball game!

And because she's a hot young pretty white woman, the media is all over it.

Now you know.

12. Not at all. We don't have to know every current event . . .
That's the secret: We don't have to know every current event, we don't have to have an opinion on every topic under the sun.

This is something about a dead child, if I'm not mistaken. I'm certain it's big on televised news shows - they seem to handle such events as "tantalizing fodder" - but when it's outside our immediate contact, and doesn't have an impact on our world view, there's no pressing need for us to familiarize ourselves with every topic the media considers "important." Fine if you want to, but fine if you don't, as well, for there are 12 good citizens sitting in judgement on it for us all.

I used to think I had to know and had to formulate opinions on everything, but as I've gotten older I've become more selective of my interests. Maybe it was Bob Marley who inspired me to "emancipate myself from mental slavery" of all sorts.

14. It IS strange but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. Different strokes and all that
you know? Some people are riveted, some have a passing interest, some don't care a bit.

It's all good.

15. It used to be called "police blotter" stuff, like the penny dreadfuls...
Gory sensational incidents that excite prurient interest. The incident never has any real meaning beyond the actual victims and perps. Nothing in those cases will materially effect the lives of anyone outside that cursed circle. . but they are always "the case of the century".

None of it is news you can use, consequently I pay it very little mind.

I see a headline or a thread title and usually just sigh and move on.

I'm done with tabloid "journalism."

17. Coming up with a missing white girl once a year is far cheaper than making a reality show or sitcom
So once a year, they take a missing children/pretty woman case and give it lots of publicity.
In this case, it turned out that the mother was charged with the murder of the missing child.

The media decides who is guilty and who isn't and they've decided the mother is guilty.

That's it in a nutshell.
