It appears that we are all hosed
Edited on Wed Jun-29-11 03:58 PM by kpete

"just walk away......."

“He was clearly out to pick a major public fight with Republicans over tax cuts for the rich.”

It appears that we are all hosed

Ezra Klein.

"The best advice I’ve gotten for assessing the debt-ceiling negotiations was to “watch for the day when the White House goes public.” As long as the Obama administration was refusing to attack Republicans publicly, my source said, they believed they could cut a deal. And that held true. They were quiet when the negotiations were going on. They were restrained after Eric Cantor and Jon Kyl walked out last week. Press Secretary Jay Carney simply said, “We are confident that we can continue to seek common ground and that we will achieve a balanced approach to deficit reduction.” But today they went public. The negotiations have failed."

Now we will see if Republicans really do mean to burn down the villiage in order to save it.

3.  Hosed

Screwed.

in the 'Dude. You're screwed.' sense.

Sometimes also means Stuck.

"You did what?! Hosed, man.

"When you wish upon a falling star, your dreams can come true. Unless it's really a meteorite hurtling to the earth which will destroy all life. Then you're pretty much hosed no matter what you wish for. Unless it's death by meteor."

6. And it is we peons who continue to lose big. No matter which party is in power.
It is all about them and their political games of chicken and their re-elections and ultimately their paychecks, their children's and grandchildren's secure futures down the road.

Not ours.

"What the two parties are really doing is trying to position themselves politically to survive the consequences of their failure. We don’t yet know if we’ll get to the point where the market will panic, but it could. We’re very likely to get to the point where we have to stop funding certain government services, which could mean as little as delaying payments to military contractors and hospitals or as much as halting Social Security checks. Either way, the public is likely to ignore the political breakdown until the consequences begin. At that point, both parties are hoping they will have framed the debate such that the electorate’s fury falls squarely on the other’s shoulders. That’s what today’s news conference was about."

7. No, it may mean that they are finally stopping the negotiation with terrorists.
Now, they can kick some butt. For one thing, the President can call Congress back into special session until the debt ceiling is raised. For another, the Feds can constitutionally continue to meet its obligations, defaulting on nothing, since that constitutional mandate trumps a legislatively-enacted debt ceiling.

10. Such is the inevitable consequence of appeasement
We should have had talks break down years ago, instead of moving further and further to the crazy right.

11. What was the option? Give in to extortionists?
republicans holding the credit of the US hostage unless Obama kills SS and Medicare? Cave and destroy your career and the Democratic Party? I'll trust his judgment and that of the majority of the middle-class to know who is playing politics with the deficit ceiling.

14. When you reach a point where you effectively resign, with your VP...
and open the white house doors for the Boner, fighting is the only choice.

Republican did not want to negotiate, they came to measure the walls for drapes.

16. Well, if we default and Cantor makes a profit, arrest him.
Seriously, anyone who makes a profit off default needs to do hard time after a public spanking with a two by four.
