McConnell invites Obama to GOP lunch; president says no, thanks

June 30, 2011, 11:22 a.m.

The Senate’s top Republican invited President Obama to a GOP lunch at the Capitol to discuss the ongoing dispute over the debt and related issues, but the White House on Thursday rebuffed the invitation.

A day after the president at his news conference challenged Congress and especially Republicans to move quickly on the nagging question of increasing the debt ceiling, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), the minority leader, urged Obama to meet with Republicans to explain his position.

6. I Hope This Wasn't A Wrong Decision On Obama's Part......
not taking up on their invitation could give them an opportunity to say that "We wanted to talk with Obama and invited him to our GOP lunch to talk - but he turned us down. He doesn't want to work this thing out. It's his fault. We tried. We extended an olive branch."

You know that's what they do - they continually put him in a lose - lose situation. I guess if he took them up on their invitation and went to the lunch that they could have said something equally damming.

10. I think he was quite clear yesterday that there are no more excuses for procrastination.

McConnell just wants to look like he's "working" now that they were called out on national television.

9. I, for one, am going to email Obama and give him a thumb's up.
The poor guy gets nothing but criticism. He needs to know we have his back if he'll just stand firm.

Good grief, over 80% agree on ending the tax breaks. Do the Republicans need cold water thrown in their face to wake up and understand?

I'm just reading today's posts. Has Boehner cancelled the July 4th break like Reid? If not, why not? Is he bawling yet?
