14. No.
Send money to a charity already in the area (eg Oxfam) and they'll be able to import more food, to feed the hundreds of thousands in camps already, or give them basic medical treatment. Your donation could save a life.

2. We NEED to fix the US. We NEED to stop bombing other countries.
We do not have enough funds to fix everyone, we can barely find the money to blow shit up.

4. WE, ah yes we before thee but not before me
When children in this country don't go to bed hungry, when they can get medical and dental care without strings attached, an education free of political interference, and their parents can provide a safe warm home for them, we'll talk.

11. You don't seem to realize that MY cause is the most important cause of all.
(The title of this post is a generic summation of what most of the replies will say in one form or another, and is presented as a public service to save countless posters from making their own individual pointless pleas for their own particular favorite cause.)

13. individuals can help too: donate, if you can afford it.
Oxfam: http://www.oxfam.org/en/emergencies/east-africa-food-crisis
UNICEF: http://www.unicef.org/

Google it, and see the photos. This is catastrophic.

Yes we know this country has econ problems but nowhere near some of the other countries problems like Africa. Yes people at least can help the poor by volunteering but I bet they don't!

18. Unfortunately, Americans don't HAVE to do anything when foreigners are dying, particularly
poor ones. European governments are much better at responding to a crisis like this.

Many Americans - and not just conservatives who routinely despise foreign aid (at least of the non-military kind), the UN and any kind of "do-gooder" organizations could help in a crisis like this - will ask "We should help ME and US before we help THEM>"

24. I wish we would stop spewing CO2 into the atmosphere. I wish we could
help everyone in the world. I wish we could take care of our own citizens. I hope we do what we can. But. There is coming a "tragedy overload". The world population will start going down as ecosystems crash. We, as people, are being incredibly dense and making some very poor choices. Our Media is corporate owned and controlled, for the most part, and we are sticking our fingers in our ears and yelling "lalalalalalalala" in any event. If we don't wake up soon the disasters will mount and the bodies will pile up. The very young and the very old will go first..."Choose life" indeed.

28. more about donating thru OXFAM
There are three Oxfam affiliates running direct appeals such that donations go directly to deal with the African food crisis -- Oxfam Great Britain, Oxfam Spain, and Oxfam New Zealand. Links at the bottom of the page
http://www.oxfam.org/en/pressroom/pressrelease/2011-07-04/oxfam-launches-largest-ever-emergency-appeal-east-africa-food-crisis

If you deduct donations, you could use the Oxfam America link which seems to be a more general fund.

Since I do standard deductions, I used Oxfam Great Britain. They make it very easy if you have a paypal account.
