4. Advice about contacting officials, courtesy of Barney Frank
Many years ago I heard Barney Frank speak to a group of gay and lesbian voters on a number of topics, one of which was how best to get the attention of Congresspersons, Senators and others in government. Mr. Frank said that different types of communications had differing likelihoods of being seen by the contacted official, with form-based email and phone calls being ranked the lowest, faxed and typewritten letters, somewhat higher, and, believe it or not, handwritten letters much higher, and handwritten letters on personalized stationery at the very top. His theory was that government officials, and their staffs, instinctively pay more attention to handwritten letters, because such letters imply that the writer feels strongly enough to take the time to write the thing. Just thought I'd offer that for consideration.

5. Excellent point! All those who can use a stamp, please do so.
Those who cannot, e-mail.

I know there are poor people who have to rely on e-mailing from the library and such, and simply don't have the money to afford a stamp.
