An earthquake happens in Japan and there's posts about it before geologists' beepers....
...start going off.

It almost doesn't matter what it is- if it's breaking, you're going to find it here pretty damned quickly. It's been like that since Keph broke 9/11. Never ceases to amaze and astound me.

One thing, and I do not mean this unkindly, is people are already arguing about breaking news on DU before most of the world knows it's occurred.

7. I noticed this a very long time ago
and DU is where I start every day, checking out LBN and posts that say "breaking!" in the subject line. It's the best way to stay caught up. It takes the corporate media hours to catch on to what DU posts in seconds.

10. I was at JFK once when a terminal was evacuated

11. I have checked most of my Japanese news sources..
Only found one story on it. Maybe it was too late for anything else to be printed... However if anything happens, I will let you know what I find..
