About the whole Elizabeth Warren blow-up on DU

I think BzaDem had an excellent take on this:

If the appointment goes to someone she has great confidence in it's akin to cloning her, and allowing her to have an impact somewhere else (as in Congress, as has been rumored).

This is what she said yesterday regarding the appointment:

With a week to go before the new consumer bureau takes off, the White House has yet to appoint its director -- an omission that Carolyn Maloney, a New York Democrat, asked Warren about.

Warren was careful and succinct, saying that when the director is confirmed and in place and the bureau gets all of its powers, "it will be a very good day."

Read in to it what you will; I don't think she expected the appointment but I do believe she was signalling her approval of the person she expected to be appointed (not her).

She must have realized that getting confirmed would cause a firestorm.

And that would be counterproductive.

2. How sad - the perfect person for the job and it would cause a firestorm.

It's most likely that it woulc cause a firestorm and that is a sign of how sick this country is.

6. I've been critical of the Administration over many things, but...

...I'm not going to make an issue over a single nomination. Some say Warren didn't want the post, others say that's just a rumor -- I don't honestly know which is the case (especially since those two assertions are not necessarily mutually exclusive). Elizabeth Warren is more than capable of stating her case if she has an issue with the appointment.

10. Sorry, but you can't honestly believe this.

Warren has been a powerful consumer advocate for much of the past decade. She can't simply be cloned, least of all with the brain of some technocratic former banking executive (from Capital One, no less).

The other part is that the administration was NEVER going to let her get close to a position that had ANY real power.
