It's raining trillions

A recent, detailed study by the Eisenhower Research Project at Brown University revealed that the war on terror has cost the US economy, so far, from $3.7 trillion (the most conservative estimate) to $4.4 trillion (the moderate estimate). Then there are interest payments on these costs - another $1 trillion.

That makes the total cost of the war on terror to be, at least, a staggering $5.4 trillion. And that does not include, as the report mentions, "additional macroeconomic consequences of war spending", or a promised (and undelivered) $5.3 billion reconstruction aid for Afghanistan.

Who's profiting from this bonanza? That's easy - US military contractors and a global banking/financial elite.

The notion that the US government would spend $10 billion a month just to chase a few "al-Qaeda types" in the Hindu Kush is nonsense.

Of course it is nonsense, but the USA is filled with nonsense.

12. It would have been far cheaper to buy an army
made of Afghans and have them remove the terrorists/Taliban themselves while building their own country.

The reason the Taliban have power is because of money. We could have successfully fought this war for pennies on the dollar. Instead we chose the most expensive and least effective way to fight it.

7. Detail here. I call it the 'Elite Buddy System'. How many of the contracts signed were non-bid?m
Edited on Fri Jul-15-11 09:54 PM by peacetalksforall
The opposite of 'bid' is 'bud' as in 'buddy'.

http://www.militaryindustrialcomplex.com/

This is where the new businesses are records.

I wonder if we can find out how the contracts divide up.

One category would be hologram type warfare.
Another would be remote controls for all four engine jets and missiles.
Another - of course - is spy-ops and psy-ops and scramble-ops.
Another prisons.
Another is training in how to privatize
Another is a new brutality training programs for police.
Another is buying spears and hiring mercenaries to break department store windows and set tires on fire during peaceful protests.

Guess it's time to let go of my anger - the money of the country has been stolen by the big boys.

10. knr - Clinton urges U.S. companies to invest in Iraq
http://www.iraq-businessnews.com/2011/06/11/clinton-urges-u-s-companies-to-invest-in-iraq

"Iraq is open for business, and American companies should make an effort to invest there, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (pictured) has said, according to a report from CNN.

The Secretary was addressing the Business Forum Promoting Commercial Opportunities in Iraq, which included executives from companies as far-ranging as Occidental Petroleum, JP Morgan Chase, General Electric, Microsoft and Lockheed Martin in a round-table discussion aimed at getting companies focused on commercial opportunities in Iraq despite its current “tough environment.”

Secretary Clinton said, “President Obama and I and our government believe strongly that expanding economic opportunity is as essential as building democratic institutions. We think they go hand in hand. And in particular, it’s very important for people going through the changes that are sweeping the region and that Iraq has, in many ways, been a leader in demonstrating, to believe and to see that democracy delivers: Is your life better or not? Do your children have a better opportunity or not?

“And this is clearly not a job for government alone. It is a very important partnership that has to be forged. Businesses like those represented here at this table create jobs, provide livelihoods, increase standards of living, give hope to individuals and their families. And what government should do, whether it’s in the United States or in Iraq, is to be a good partner, to help create the conditions for investment and growth that will be broadly spread and create a ladder of economic opportunity for those willing to work hard, to acquire the education and skills required in the modern world..."
