The Women's World Cup Final
The last time the US women won the world cup was in 1999 and Clinton was President.
I have a feeling they will win on Sunday with another Democratic President in office. They have won all three encounters with the Japanese ladies this year.

Dr. Jill Biden will represent the administration. Chelsea Clinton will also be there - not sure if she's representing her mother.

Check out the head to head
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14152612.stm
<snip>
The United States may be the top-ranked team on the planet but they have not won the World Cup since 1999.

Could that be about to change? Well, they have played Japan three times this year and won on every occasion.

That said, the Japanese, who will be playing in their first World Cup final, have captured the heart of football fans around the globe with their fearless approach and technical ability.

I haven't heard one ReTHUG cheering on the ladies!!

Go USA!!

4. Lots of skill on your team and
they are very really motivated to cheer up Japan since the quake/tsunami but the stats tell me the USA has more experience and victories against them.

Hope it's a great game but I'm backing the US ladies.

9. The Japanese Are Thrilled
they made it this far.

If they lose, it's already a win for Japan.

I hope the Japanese gals go all the way - So much sadness and uncertainty for many since March.

13. Here ya go

2011 FIFA World Cup Final

Sunday, July 17 2 p.m. ESPN Frankfurt (I think the time is EDT)

Not sure Univision will carry it because they are busy with the America's Cup.

Fyi today is the River Plate Classic in the Gold Cup. Argentina vs. Uruguay. Leo Messi (voted best football in the world) vs. Diego Forlan of Uruguay, voted MVP of the South Africa 2010 World Cup. Should be quite a match.

Univision will be carrying live. 6:30 p.n. EDT if my GMT time conversion is correct.

click where they tell you on this link to convert time to your zone.

ESPN has been showing but I'm sure ABC will also cover the final.
Here's another link claiming that they are showing it.

23. My wife, who is Japanese, and I (American) are really looking forward to this game
Edited on Sat Jul-16-11 05:31 PM by peace4ever
We were traveling in Germany this past week, and have enjoyed following the games when we could, the buzz over there is big, being the host nation, and being big on football as a nation, too.

My heart is really pulling for the Japanese team though, it would be a bright spot for their nation, who has suffered so much this year.

it's gonna be a great game, either way. :bounce:

a big salute to all the wonderful female athletes, you are certainly inspirational, and gutsy :toast:

You earned the victory. USA blew more than enough chances in the first half and then blew three penalty kicks.

What a terrific game. I'm sad for Team USA, but very happy for Japan. They played with true grit and determination and Japan deserves a feel-good story and a happy ending.
