I find it scary that it has to be explained to the Republican freshman the consequences
of not raising the debt ceiling. They don't have enough sense to understand the consequences of a 10% reduction in GDP in one instance will be a disaster or that a rise in interest rates will make the U.S. debt situation even worse. Your average citizen can figure it out with a little research but they need someone to explain it to them. :scared:

2. The freshmen Republicans WANT a failure
It would be the culmination of the Norquist "drown it in the bathtub" they follow like a religion.

Cnn lies, republicans lie. That's the only excuse for ignorance, some cannot sort out lies.

4. Delusional ideologues.
Hostage takers, political terrorists. Why do repugs always gravitate toward the dumbest person in the room to represent them?

to handle such weighty matters as these, which would only make our poor little proletarian heads hurt.

If anything, I think that members of Congress are more ignorant than most people. They are in place because they have money and connections and ambition, not knowledge. When they get to Washington, they only do what the party leaders tell them, and the party leaders do what the party's money men tell them.

Meanwhile, nobody is actually dealing with the intricacies of policy, since that would take intellectual firepower that few of these people possess, and besides, there's no money in studying trade policy, say, or economic development when one could instead be out begging Goldman Sachs for money.
