A Better Life : Try to see it.

Naturally the theater was 2/3 empty tonite. Seems to be the case w. most worthwhile films these days. Meanwhile the rest of the multiplex on 42nd st was mobbed w. folks stampeding in to see the usual summer blockbuster schlock.

Anyway. A Better Life: Mexican immigrants. Undocumented. Los Angeles. Single dad, teenage son. Struggle for survival.

Very much in the mold of Gran Torino ( a sly homage to that film , apparently, in the casting of the actor who played the priest in GT in a smaller part in this film.) but this story adds a lot of depth to the modern immigrant narrative.

Good quality stuff all around: acting, writing, directing.

Hope it makes some $$$.
