4. As a team, Japan played better.
I think Abby Wambach played awesome, though.

This was a game for the ages. How can it get any closer than this?

5. Japan beat Germany, which hadn't LOST A World Cup GAME in 12 years
They beat a heavily favored US team, scoring in the 117th minute.

They most certainly deserved it.

Great job to a resilient Japanese team!

9. Yeah, the ending could have been better for the US, but still
they played with heart. The Japanese were playing for much more that the cup.

15. I think they are technically better than the US
but I thought size, power and confidence would take the US home. Japan wanted it more. They earned this one.

10. Congrats Japan. US missed chances from what I saw and Japan hung in there well.
Great finish, especially for a soccer novice to watch.

11. Face it, women soccer players play a cleaner game overall. . .
Edited on Sun Jul-17-11 04:37 PM by DinahMoeHum
Fewer "flops", fewer out-and-out dirty plays,
and let's remember that when the men's 2006 World Cup took place there in Germany, there was an awful lot of racist behavior on the fans' part. Very little of that shit in evidence the past fortnight.

Of course, I was disappointed that Team USA didn't win, but from what I've read, I was not entirely shocked about the Japanese team. I felt that if it came to a tie and penalty kicks, they had a chance.

As a saying goes: those who reach the mountain top didn't fall there.

Oh, and I heard that President Obama and the kids were watching this game. Way to go, Mr. President.

18. Overall they were the better team
This is a problem for the American (read north american) iteration of the game. Teams, whether the US or Mexico, tend to be happy to go defensive after one goal... and they lose often due to this.

We need to get out of that and realize that you keep the offense with only one up in the scoreboard. Go defensive when you are up two or more.

19. Can we riot now? Huh? Can we?
No, not against Japan. Both teams brought honor to their respective countries, and I respect Japan's victory.

But that said, aren't we supposed to be having a riot right about now? If it helps, try to picture Mitch McConnell running down Pennsylvania Avenue wearing soccer shorts.

No, dammit, I said RIOT, not THROW UP!
